Hi dpwct, thanks for posting today.

If you're still able to backup your photos library onto Dropbox, which isn't possible on the recent updated version for Mac OS, then you could share a link to the file or folder.

This way they can download the file to their machine. After that, it would depend on their local software to see how the file could be opened.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

    Hi dpwct,

May I know if you are referring about the camera uploads  backup feature that is set up or enabled from your mobile phone, so the photos/videos you take from your phone will go straight to your Dropbox account under the default folder " Camera Uploads" ? If you can let us know where these apple photos are backed up from ( either from your computer or from your mobile device). Thank you.

      Hi dpwct,

You can select which folders are backed up from your computer or external hard drive during setup. If you would like to keep a back up copy of the files from your external drive, you will be able to see the location of these backup files by clicking on this link while logged in to your Dropbox account : www.dropbox.com/backup/all Hope this helps.

Thanks, but that . Does not explain the issue with sharing backed up files and seeing the difference between sync and backup, which I was not aware of leads me to also ask what are the different retention rules for back up versus files that are kept on dropbox via backup vs sync

If you're referring to the Backup feature, where you can back up external drives to your Dropbox, those backups cannot be shared. They're meant as a backup and do not work like your regular Dropbox storage.
