turkish character problem
if you have some of the turkish characters (like capital i in Turkish, which is İ) in your file name, dropbox do not synchronize, I realized it but it was too late, I lost lots of things... Please solve this problem..

I have two files in a dropbox folder with Turkish text. One is MS Word, the other PDF. Text is identical.
I cannot copy either of these files from Drop Box to my Windows 7 desktop. It just stalls.
I can, however, copy/paste these two files into macOS. I can also copy/paste them within Windows 7. Just can't copy from Drop Box, then paste into Windows 7.
This prevented me from copying a Drop Box folder that had hundreds of folders and files in it. Finally after copying and pasting individual subsets of folders, I found the culprit. Interesting that it happens with Word and also PDF.

Hahaha, 2 sene geçmiş halen bir çözüm üretememiş dropbox... Demetrios pek takmamış demekki bizi... Boşverin, başka bulut mu yok?
- Omer Y.New member | Level 2
Başka bulut olmaz mi. Epeydir araştırıyorum. Sync su an favorim.

Sync'i bir inceleyeyim bakayım. Bakmadan önce sorayım, versiyon kaydediyor mu?

Hele ki son kullanıcı hesaplarının satılması olayından sonra artık Dropbox'ın güvenirliği iyice sorgulanır oldu. Sync alternatifler arasında en üst sıralarda. Deneyelim bakalım.
- Omer Y.New member | Level 2
Versiyon kaydediyor.

Hello,
I have problem with uppercase versions of "i" as Turkish character.
Is there a way to find all files/folders in dropbox with capitalized i and change them with lower case ?

You could try going to www.dropbox.com/home and using the search bar in the top right?
Note that once you've found them you will need to rename them yourself, there isnt a tool to do that for you.
- denizkaradumanHelpful | Level 5Any other easier way ?
- Murat U.Helpful | Level 5This problem of failing to synchronize files and folders containing Turkish character İ (capital i, not I) in their name is and age old (complaints from 2013) inability of Dropbox and is still here at the year of 2017. Dropbox technical support admits it and told me that they can not offer any solution or workaround.
This is not a tiny problem, or detail, this is a huge problem especially if you work across more than one PC, if you use some portion of your paid 1 TB storage for documents, which means thousands of files, like student homework or official documents (of whom the authors might very likely to name them with capital İ) and it is impossible for you to know how much data you have lost because of the files trapped in the PC's they were first created or saved and not synchronized to cloud and to other PC's. You cannot locate may be hundreds of your local files among thousands of them and rename/ remove İ's from them manually. The current solution seems to switch to another cloud storage company, which I have preferred, to Google Drive for example, with the same storage space (1 TB), nearly same or slightly less cost, and same functionality plus Google Drive synchronizes files named with Turkish characters (including İ) without any problem.Turkish version of my post: Dropbox yetkilileri de görsün diye İngilizce yazdım, üsttekinin türkçesi arkadaşlar.
Dropbox adı İ (büyük i) içeren dosya ve klasörleri senkronize edemiyor arkadaşlar.

Hi Turker,
Thank you for contacting Dropbox Support. My name is Fedra and I'd more than happy to help you with your request.
This is actually because Dropbox works in a case insensitive nature on Windows and Mac OSX (both OSes are case insensitive). So when Dropbox tries to write the file, it uses the lowercase version of the path/file name, however with İ, there are no case insensitive equivalents and so the files are unsyncable.
We don't currently have a good solution for this, so to get your files syncing you'll need to manually change it indeed, using lowercase characters.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know. I would be more than happy to assist you further.
Sincerely,
Fedra- KursadNew member | Level 2
I lost my important files in the folders they names are starting capital i or dotless i...
I will note use Dropbox any more...
- Hüseyin P.Helpful | Level 6
More than 5 years,
Several people asked for it...
iCloud can handle it.
Google Drive can handle it.
Yandex Disk.. Yes...
Dropbox? They don't even care.
If file name is "İstanbul" sync fails.
You should change it to "Istanbul" or "istanbul"
If you or your friend have multiple files?
Good luck, because
It doesn't give you any feedback or notification
on the top of it, it shows a green icon!
Such a shame.

Hi,
In Turkish language, we have a capital letter, İ, which is basically I with a dot and it is capital of the letter i.
Dropbox won't sync any files including this letter in the filename.
Here, you can see the folder on my Macbook Pro (Mojave 10.14.1). The file including İ in the filename (FİLENAME.pdf) is can be seen with green checkmark.
On the desktop software, the filename with the letter İ can't be seen anywhere as synced.
I checked the online folder on the web, the file isn't there...
Only after I change the filename and eliminate all the İ's can the computer upload the file on the cloud.
I think this problem should be reported to Dropbox developers, any ideas?
- Jane
