Choosing my Dropbox folder location and renaming it as well

I'm using Windows 11. My C drive is an SSD (solid-state drive) with limited space and my D drive is a 1 TB HDD (hard disk). Dropbox wants to put its folder on the C: drive. I'm trying to change it to D:\myusername-dropbox (where myusername is my user name). But when I go to Advanced Settings and choose "Other" to select that folder, Dropbox insists on making the path D:\myusername-dropbox\Dropbox. I don't want the longer path with the Dropbox folder as a subfolder. I also don't want D:\Dropbox because I want to include myusername (the computer has several users).

How can I put the Dropbox folder at exactly  D:\myusername-dropbox ? Thanks.

  • Hi JJ777, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

As you've discovered, it isn't possible to rename the Dropbox folder itself.

However, you can place it inside the 'D:\myusername' folder, and it will automatically create the Dropbox folder within there.

After thinking about it more, I guess I could make a folder D:\myusername and let Dropbox use the folder D:\myusername\Dropbox. (This is a new computer; I'm not used to having a small C drive.) But I'd still like to know how to choose the exact Dropbox folder location. Thanks.

Hello Jay, I tried to move the folder to my 😧 drive on windows 11, and it says its being used by another program. Closed everything and still having the problem.

I am successfully running dropbox in my computer, partially syncing the files I want. But I don't want to use my C: drive as I'm running out of space.

Could you please add a more detailed explanation on how to do this?

        Many thanks,

        CAH
