How user-friendly is Dropbox on mobile, and how seamless is your collaboration with your team?

Hey everyone! I'm Ela, a Product Manager at Dropbox. Our team is dedicated to improving the Dropbox mobile application to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience for efficient team collaboration. I'm eager to learn about your usage of Dropbox on mobile (iOS or Android).

Particularly,

1. Which features on Dropbox mobile do you find challenging or difficult to use?

2. When  collaborating with your team on Dropbox, what specific issues do you encounter, and are there any limitations in the product that you've come across? Additionally, have you developed any workarounds for these challenges?

Your valuable insights will guide us in addressing these challenges and improving Dropbox.

If you're using Dropbox with your team and are open to collaborating with us and shaping the future of our product, simply write "I'm okay for Dropbox to contact me by email" in your response. Your feedback is crucial in making Dropbox even better. Thank you!

Hi there. I've tried several times to get a response from support so hoping you are listening...

    To 1.
Why can't you chose the PDF viewer rather than force users to hard code to open Adobe's Reader on iOS. Please add this as a feature request. Indeed, back in the day Apple received a lot of stick as emails had to go thru Apple Mail, essentially this is the same... let the users define the PDF tool they prefer!

Saying this when navigating within the Dropbox app a simple in-built no frills PDF viewer would be useful to avoid opening further apps - please also add this as a feature request.

Thanks for a response ERs from product management.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback. To view a Dropbox file in your preferred PDF app you can go tap Share > Export a copy > select your preferred app from the list.

I hear what you're saying though that it's not intuitive to figure that out. If you don't mind sharing, what app are you trying to view the PDF in? And is there functionality you're trying to use in the other app that Dropbox does not provide?

I have found the "save local" option does NOT always keep a copy local! While offline I go to the green checked directory and the files are EMPTY! No Bueno! I NEED it there all the time.

It is set correctly, yet if I have no internet (offline on a plane for example) it MAY or MAY NOT actually be available locally.

I have not figured out WHY it has no data in the directory.

I MUST reconnect to the internet and wait, and then it will be resynched and be available.

It seems weird that DB doesn't just place a copy and LEAVE IT THERE. Then ONLY resynch IF the file changed.

It seems like the android app ALWAYS pulls a fresh copy when reconnecting to the internet.

I NEED this file available 100% of the time. That is priority over capturing changes because it only changes once or twice a week.

Dropbox on mobile is quite user-friendly, making file access and sharing straightforward. At <<snip>> we use it regularly for team collaboration, and it’s pretty seamless. The ability to sync files instantly and collaborate in real-time has been a huge plus for us, whether we're in the office or working remotely.

I'm sorry to reply to this message as it may not be relevant to what I'm asking but I could not find a way to to start a new thread for my problem.

I'm trying to remove the one-click super easy google sign in ability to dropbox from my mobile phone. Currently, whoever gets a hold of my mobile device, searches for the DropBox app, and  find it can simply log in by choosing "an account to continue with Drop Box" via the automatically pop in "sign in with Google" layer.

Does anyone know how to disable this layer so that the mobile app would alway asks for a password to be typed in?

Hi Ela, in response to 1:
    a) Please could we have a direct link to Offline files/folders on the Home page of the mobile app, ideally as a button in the navigation menu at the bottom of the page (plenty of room for a fifth button).
    b) Perhaps even more helpful would be having single click sort by name / by modified buttons on each folder – ideally each folder would also remember the last way you sorted it (as that's usually the way you want to see it).
    c) Could the top-level folders look or be coloured differently (in order to prevent accidental navigation "above" them, which in some circumstances, such as the Android "Add to Dropbox", cancels the action)?
    Thank you.

Hi Antony P.3, thanks for sharing your feedback.

1 - You can customize the mobile home screen to view Offline files/folders on the Home page. Just click on the customize icon (artist palette) on the upper right of your mobile screen in the Dropbox app and you can enable an option to view 'Offline' content. You can also re-arrange the folders based on your priority order. Please check out this document.

2 - We also provide an option to sort by name or modified on each folder. You can navigate to the folder and click on the 'Name' dropdown to sort folder contents by name or change it to 'Sort by modified'.

3 - I'll discuss this recommended feature with my team.

        1. I'm really sorry, but I can't find the customise icon anywhere within my Dropbox Android app.
        2. This is a two-click, not a single-click solution (and anyway the folders should remember their views).
        3. Thank you.

This is exactly what we see lately! Sometimes the download starts, sometimes it 404s.

      Seems to be random.
