Can I backup my WhatsApp chat messages directly to Dropbox?

Hi

Is there a way of directly backing up my WhatsApp (messages only) to my Dropbox.

I cannot find a way of doing this as my WhatsApp only appears to show Google storage as the only storage available for this particular backup

Thanks

Hi Ekeating, just jumping in here. I have saved WhatsApp chats to my Dropbox successfully in the past 😎.

    Here are the steps how:

    1.  Open WhatsApp on your phone.
    2. Go to the chat you want to save
    3. Tap the three dots (menu) in the top right corner (Android) or the chat name (iOS).
    4. Select More (Android only), then tap Export Chat.
    5. Choose whether you want to export the chat With Media (includes images, videos, etc.) or Without Media (Which is what you want, so I understand from your thread).
    6. WhatsApp will create a ZIP file (if you include media) or a simple text file (if without media).

    7. After exporting, WhatsApp will prompt you to share the exported chat.
    8. From the list of options, select Save to Dropbox.
    9. If Dropbox is not shown, you might need to tap More to find it.
    10. Choose the folder in Dropbox where you want to save the chat.
    11. Tap Save.

I hope these steps work for you so you can keep your chats safe in your Dropbox account.

Hi Ekeating, thanks for contacting us.

Currently, there isn't a way to directly upload your WhatsApp message backups directly to Dropbox, since Google is the only option available there.

There might be another app or service that could download the backup from Google Drive onto your machine or phone, so you can then upload it to Dropbox.

I'll leave this thread open for other users to comment with their suggestions.
