Add text saying "on" and "Off" to desktop app's preferences buttons
I have been seriously confused by the buttons on the "Preferences" menu and elsewhere. Nothing says whether the button that is a black dot on a white slide means on or what a white button on a black ...

I had the same question, which your answer does not answer. Does the black button with white dot equal on or off?

This option is on:
If the bar is white and button black it is off.

Apparently that seems obvious to UX designers but if the bar is white it seems to me (graphic designer) like the lights are on but in this case black means on.
The left and right toggle also buggers up left handers or left align readers.
That aside, it's hard for problem solving when you have to ask search/forums is it on or off.
