Yes, I checked incognito and it logs into the new account. I have emails from dropbox from 2021 with the same login as I am using now.
Events shows no activity.

And when was the last time you used this account? If it's been more than a year then the account would have been deleted due to inactivity.
If you're certain that you're using the same email address as before and your Events page is empty, that's usually a good sign that the old account no longer exists and you've created a new, empty one.
I had the plug in for my mac and used it quite regularly, at least once a month to access pictures etc.
Would I not get a notice if dropbox were to delete my account? Could this be recovered if they deleted due to inactivity?

Yes, Dropbox sends several emails before deleting an account due to inactivity. Once an account has been deleted, neither the account nor the files it contained can be recovered.
