Mobile Dropbox app: handwriting/annotations (with pencil) for pdf, photos and drawing files

Do you want to use less paper and organise your handwritten annotations on digital files?

In daily business, I need to review documents (pdf): highlighting, adding quick handwritten notes or adding symbols is very usefull.

As a sailer, I make notes on weather charts(gif, png or jpeg), plot tidal calculations on a tidal template for a harbour (pdf). Or I need to draw secondary port calculations in a standard pdf template.

As a musician, I make notes on a digital music sheet.

There should be an option in the Dropbox app to add these annotations to the original document or to create a copy including the annotations (in the file name it adds your initials and a date). I know there is a feature to add signatures, but this proposal takes the next step!

I think this would we a very useful add on for the mobile (tablet) Dropbox app.

Thank you for your suggestion, and if you have another idea to share, please do!

  • I'm also interested in the idea of being able to natively highlight and underline functions within the applications that are already present in other applications. Unfortunately we are never taken into consideration, how sad!

Hey BasseART, thanks for your clarifications.

At this time, this feature is indeed not available on the Dropbox app.

On iOS, you can add Dropbox to your Files App and edit your files directly from there, as a workaround.

But this idea is now open!

Everyone, if you like this idea, please share how this would help you, and vote to show your support.

Our top-voted ideas are shared with our product teams to investigate in our regular reviews.

    Hi Megan,

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Indeed, this feature for editing does already exist in the web environment, but as far I can see, it is not the case for Dropbox on my Ipad. So far, it is possible to sign, add text and add a date in the document. The feature to add free comments with a pencil does not show up in my app. Or I am missing something? 🙂

I use my Ipad also offline (when sailing) and would love to make annotations in the pdf when being in the marina or at sea.

    Kind regards,

    Bart

Hi BasseART, I hope you're doing well!

You mentioned editing PDF documents, which made me think of this feature.

Not sure if this would 100% fit your needs, or If you'd like more additions to this. Want to have a look, and let me know your thoughts about this feature, if this would work, and if yes then let us know how to improve it.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
