Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.
Hi
A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?

This is not solved - I am working with a group that uses Dropbox instead of Google Drive & I need a way to interactively edit a document with them short of me making edits, uploading them & then repeating this process until the entire group finds the document acceptable.

+1 for sure. Paper, you have made an enjoyable composition tool. It needs some stuff. I know that you can't make everyone happy at one time, but leveraging your current audience (Dropbox users) is going to help you out by helping us out. Combining the working document with the existing dropbox structure through some sort of association would be very helpful. *honestly, I can't use your tool much until that happens.*

Ditto! We drove ourselves nuts trying to figure out why we couldn't see our staff notes in the "team folders' and in our Finder windows, or why we couldn't move them (or delete them for that matter!)
It's cumbersome to have to flip back and forth between our important documents in "Team Folders" and the Paper document we are collaborating on (only available online, not in the Finder window). Our team had been using Box.com which has seamless integration between BoxNotes and the shared folders, and it's a dissapointment that DropBox missed this.We will wait to pay to switch fully to DropBox until this integration is complete.

Hi Liz
Integrating Paper into the filesystem is something we are looking into. Out of curiosity, what are you trying to achieve by having your Paper docs in Dropbox? How does it help you?
We would love to hear your thoughts!

Has there been any update on this in the last two years??

Kaz,
that is a strange question ... have a look at the umteen remarks (complaints) in this topic ...
In short : why maintain 2 folder structures if it can be done in one?

I want to use Paper to create READMEs and Release Notes for builds on DropBox. However, when I select "Add to folder" in the top left, the only option is Example Docs. "Choose another..." doesn't offer any of the folders on DropBox.
How do I move a Paper document to a DropBox folder, or start a Paper document from a DropBox folder?
Thanks.
D.

I am sorry to say, there is not an integration between the paper folder and the Dropbox folders.
The best thing you can do is put a readme in the dropbox folder with a link to the paper document. Or invite the people individually.
I wish I could give better news.

Is this limitation something that is being considered/addressed in a future release?

I, like many, can't get over how ridiculously complicated it is to have two sets of files to share, and at that, for Paper not to be synced with desktop. (Even worse, not to find much help on this topic posted by Dbox seems unforgivable.):slight_frown:
Suggestion to Dropbox re: Paper docs.
Why don't you create something akin to an alias document which will automatically link to the Paper directory on the server. I'm not a programmer or geek but can only imagine that Paper docs have to stay in a central location on the Dbox server in order to utilize the collaboration and on-the-fly formatting tools. With an alias, at least you'll know that you've got a relevant document in the team's Paper directory. The alias doesn't even have to be a functional viewable file but only a virtual link to the stored file. Understandably you couldn't access it if you didn't have a connection.
But at least it'd be there in your cloud Dbox and desktop Dbox as a virtual file serving as an alias which youi could then directly access. Even better, let the alias show the last time the file was modified, or maybe make that Paper version a non-printable view only version of the latest version. Or maybe if printable, a watermark noting that it's one imprint of a dynamic document. ) But, as is, as "fun" as it is to learn the novel bells and whistles and get others to collaborate in Paper, it's a giant PITA. (As is the folder and file system display.) (as is discovering how to re-invite someone) ( as is noting that a team member is in fact already viewing the team folder but still being indicated as not having responded to the invitaiton)

My team and I just decided to give Paper a shot for our collaborative notes since we use DB for sharing our other files. Previously we'd been using Evernote. The thought that we could have all of our collaborative notes as files within our existing DB folders and not have to jump back and forth between platforms anymore was appealing.
Then we come to find out that Paper keeps things in it's own file/folder setup. Man, that's a letdown. And confusing too as it doesn't seem to make sense logically.
Found this thread and see that the idea was proposed over 2 years ago. And it's still not been developed.
Big letdown DB. We'll be sticking to Evernote for now I guess.

Dropbox team,
why is this topic beeing marked as "Solved"
Maybe I missed a communication. If so , please show us how to store Papers in existing Dropbox structure.
Thanks

Hey all, wondering if there is currently a way, or one on the horizon, where I can use a single Dropbox folder to house both static docs (PDFs, Word, Excel) along with Paper docs. Would be incredible / revolutionize everything if we'd be able to save them to a single folder.

At the moment to my knowledge just like yours, there is no way to do this. My best solution (persoanlly) is place a text file in the folder with a link to the paper doc.
Uusally Dropbox never comments on upcoming features. Just incase plans change, development hits a snag etc.

Hey theshanklin welcome to the Community!
Please keep in mind that Dropbox and Paper are separate systems at the moment, so it’s not possible to save Paper docs within your file structure. This is also why Paper docs are kept separately from your Dropbox files, and why Paper has its own app of mobile devices. It's also not currently possible to create or access Paper doc within your Dropbox folder structure. However, you can always create Paper folders for organizational purposes: Dropbox Paper FoldersHope this helps, and let me know if there’s anything else you need assistance with or if you have any further questions. Thanks and have a happy Friday!PS. I'm more than happy to forward this question over to our Paper developers as feedback for future consideration. - theshanklinExplorer | Level 4
Thanks for the info. Not what I was hoping, but good to know there's not something I missed.
Could you please pass on my feedback to the Paper developers!
