I have set up a new computer. Downloaded the Dropbox desktop app, same as previous computer. I am running Office365. Now all Word documents that are stored in DP are showing corrupted. I can login to DP directly and open the document but when I try to open through my DP shortcut on file explorer. Word docs will not open directly. The solution has been to open the document from DP and then re-save it on the computer in DP. So I still have access to the docs but it's very inconvenient. Is there a solution that would allow my documents to all update at once and be available again from the file explorer shortcut?8Views0likes1CommentI can't use Shift + delete for my folders due to new "delete for everyone" pop-up message.
I am unable to shift+delete any folder inside my dropbox folder so I can skip the recycling bin. This seems to be connected to this new popup about asking if I'm sure I want to delete for everyone. Which is very strange, because this is NOT in a folder I've shared with anyone else. Any ideas on how to fix this? Or how I can report this to Dropbox directly?Solved87Views0likes15Comments"View your recycle bin for Dropbox" - how can I disable this?
I'm not sure if it's a recent addition or if I simply didn't notice it before, but recently, at the bottom of the open "Recycle Bin" on Windows, it has a bar along the bottom that says "View your recycle bin for: Dropbox", with 'Dropbox' a link that opens my Dropbox account in the browser. Is there any way to turn this off? It's not a useful feature for me, and it takes up screen space that could be used for displaying more of the Recycle Bin contents. Thanks.Solved2.3KViews2likes14CommentsDropbox disappearing from Mac Finder side panel
This is getting annoying. Dropbox disappearing from Mac Finder side panel. Sometimes it’s there, sometimes not. Sometimes when I want to open a file on Dropbox from within an app, it’s just not there. othertimes it will be. Currently I’m on an M2 Mac Mini13Views0likes1CommentHow can I permanently disable the "delete for everyone" prompt?
How can I permanently disable this "delete for everyone" prompt? I have to delete old files daily for work, and this message is a major hindrance. It doesn't happen if I take the time to sync the file to my hard drive, but that is a ridiculous workaround when I'm trying to completely delete a file. This needs a "don't remind me again" option. Am I missing some way to turn this off?Do files sync to a computer after getting deleted?
Here is the reason I ask: I have about 10k files in my Dropbox (on web). I am currently syncing with a computer (on desktop), but it says the status is downloading about 800k files. My only guess, is it is some how syncing deleted files as well? Or is it something else, or is my guess correct? I would like a solution to this, because obviously it takes a long time to sync 800k files.25Views0likes4CommentsHow do I disable the "Delete file for everyone" message?
There are some old threads on this but couldn't find anything recently. A client with around a million files in Dropbox is migrating to SharePoint- not specifically because Dropbox doesn't work but because the overall M365 environment works better for them. So I'm scripting synchronising by folder to SharePoint using robocopy. However, when I then delete the folder in Dropbox, I'm getting the prompt as to whether to delete for everyone. This is going to pop-up several hundreds times as that's how many individual top-level folders they have. It's not like one prompt appears for all the individual deletions - it's one prompt per folder deleted. I've been testing the script and maybe deleting a folder (sometimes containing 5,000 files) every minute. But the delete prompts are only occurring every 5 minutes or so, sometimes longer. I assume that's because Dropbox is deleting the first folder (which takes 5+ mins for that many files) and then moving onto the next folder How do I disable this prompt? I suspect I can't (doh!) so I might have to consider moving the folders to a "Deleted" folder which I assume won't trigger the prompt.104Views0likes2CommentsI keep seeing conflicted copies for my audio files, after using a third-party software.
Hi! Recently I've been getting problems with duplicate files when I export audio files from my software directly into a Dropbox folder . One of them is labled "conflicted copy", (I think that's the english term, I've got dropbox in swedish where it says "konfliktkopia"). The one that has the original file name only is always incomplete, the end of the audio file is cut. I've read that "conflicted copy" is something that happens when multiple users are editing the same file. However, I'm the single user on the account and I'm pretty sure I haven't been hacked by someone who consistently exports my audio files the same minute I am. Something seems to happen when I export the files (and thus add them to Dropbox). Like Dropbox thinks it's a new file, while it's still being rendered, and therefore thinks it's a conflict? I've been using dropbox for years and never had this before. Any ideas on how to solve it? I'm using a mac with Ventura 13.6.4. I also have dropbox installed on an iPhone, if that might be causing this somehow.670Views0likes15CommentsI'm unable to rename a file after copying it from another sub-folder on my Mac.
Having this issue over the past several months. Saw another thread where others were having the same issue, but that thread was locked. I copy a file from one subfolder in Dropbox to another subfolder on my Sonoma 14.5 Mac, (Dropbox v199.4.6287) and then I can't rename the file. This doesn't happen every time, but has happened a couple of times in the last 4 months since Jan 2024, and may have started happening before that. Other files in the same folder have the Dropbox Quick Actions context menu items when I right click on them. This file does not. I can open the file, change contents, and save, and that works. I can copy the file with a ctrl-c / cntrl-v in the same folder, and then the copy of the file appears to inherit the same problem, I can't rename it either. I can delete the file. A menu item "Do not sync" is not available in the right click menu for this specific file, although not in the Dropbox Quick Actions section of the right click menu. If I quit the Dropbox app, still can't rename the file, start Dropbox back up, still can't rename the file. Force quitting the Finder, which then automatically restarts, all the finder windows ... does work! So letting others know this is a workaround for this problem rather than rebooting the whole computer, which also works. But this does appear to be a bug around something with file copying in Dropbox folders, unless it's a Mac OS level bug. I noticed after restarting the Finder that the little green circle with the check-box next to the filename is back, which wasn't showing before, so there was something going on with Dropbox integration with the finder perhaps.1.9KViews0likes13Comments
