I’d like to backup the entire contents of my large Dropbox account to an external hard drive. What is the best way to do this? Considerations: I have a complex web of folders and files, some of which are online-only and not. I’d like to keep the current setting of which are online-only and which are not. Syncing down in batches and copy-pasting onto the external is therefore not ideal. Backup methods like Time Machine don’t do much good with stub files like Dropbox’s online-only files. The size of my Dropbox contents exceeds the capacity of my local hard drive, so I can’t use it as a “middle-man”. There are apparently download limits on Dropbox web, so I don’t think I can just download it all directly to an external hard drive. One idea would be to make a new user on my Mac, sign into Dropbox, set the folder to the external HD, and sync everything down, but this seems risky and janky… Any ideas appreciated!9.9KViews2likes24CommentsDownload progress/status bar when using the mobile app on Android
When using the mobile app, it would be great to have a download notification/progress bar. I usually download videos which take a minute or two to download but, I am sat waiting until I see the 'Exported' notification pop up. Hi, hope someone can help me here. Im trying to download a file through desktop app and once its all synced, it says 'Sync Completed' but doesnt shows the file on my desktop folder. I tried restarting the app and pc both but nothing helps. I have a doubt here about disk space. So, let me clear it a bit- So, the file im syncing is 400gb and available space on disc is 700 gb There is more then enough space for sync but does it needs 400gb space more when it flushes the file over disk? I dont know may be im wrong but if anyone can guide, It ll be very helpfull. Thank you! - Maann32Views0likes1CommentMake downloading from shared link less complicated and more streamline.
It's just incredibly hard for common folks to download their files. You confuse things by making them accept all..... offering them app or web browser download...... Then you ask are they sure they want to leave page. I give out 30-40 links a month and have to explain how to download to almost every single client. I have several photographer friends and they all say same thing."""""""""376Views0likes3Comments同期、バックアップできません。
44Views0likes1CommentHow can I download my Dropbox contents onto an external drive?
I'm really really disappointed with Dropbox over the last several years. I had an enormous issue as did others with preview of images and photos on my laptop which after a multi-year discussion on this forum with dropbox led me to give up and put them on OneDrive (which is much better at preview of thumbnails) so I could continue my family history writing. But I continued to use Dropbox as my backup solution and as needed for sharing. I'm again totally disappointed with the effort to backup my dropbox cloud to an external harddrive. I've read all the posts here and on Reddit about the best way to do this. You have to synch the files to your harddrive on the laptop and then copy them to the harddrive (making it a multi-step process). I think I would live with that if Dropbox worked consistently with making files offline. But I can select a folder and say make the files offline (ie on my laptop). Then when I try to copy those to the harddrive I often get errors. Only some of the files in the folders show up offline. Sometimes I have to repeat the procedure multiple times on a single folder to get the files offline. It is ridiculous that I can't select a dropbox folder and copy it to a hardrive and have dropbox dowload the files either directly to the external hardrive or to my laptop. I consider myself a fairly expert user of Dropbox (10+ years) and used to love it. Now I just tolerate it. PS I tried cloudmount but ran into some issues with that solution too.59Views1like6CommentsWhat tool does Dropbox use to zip folders for download?
Summary: I’m trying to figure out how to create a usable zip file out of files that have non-ASCII filenames, so I’d like to find out what zip tool Dropbox uses when I download a folder from Dropbox. Background: It turns out that most zip-file-creation tools cause problems when you try to zip a file that has a non-ASCII filename. But when I download a folder from Dropbox that contains files with non-ASCII filenames, the folder arrives on my computer in the form of a zip file that correctly includes those files. So whatever tool Dropbox is using (internally) to automatically create zip files for download is doing exactly what I want to do. Workaround: If I want to zip a folder, I can upload it to Dropbox and then download it. That works, but it takes a lot of bandwidth and time. Question: So I’d like to find out what zip-file-creation tool Dropbox is using to create zip files for download, in hopes that I can use that same tool (or something similar) on my local computer, to be able to correctly zip non-ASCII filenames without having to upload and download to and from Dropbox. So do any of you know what Dropbox uses to create zip files for download? thanks, —JedSolved130Views0likes4Comments
