I use Dropbox in OS Monterey. I am not a heavy user in terms of number of files and usage complexity. I just use to sync files. My DB account has 3.8 Gb in files. Despite this simple usage, DB app is consistently using 1.7Gb of my RAM, making it the largest app in terms of RAM commitment. Do you know how can I reduce RAM usage?3.4KViews6likes10CommentsHigh CPU usage even when not syncing or indexing
For the past couple of days, Dropbox has been consistently using around 30% of my CPU, when not syncing or indexing anything (i.e., the menu bar drop down says `Up to date`). Any idea why this might be happening, and what I can do to get Dropbox to idle properly? I'm on a MacBook Air, running macOS 10.13.6 and Dropbox 58.4.92. Thanks.Solved83KViews6likes64CommentsDesktop app is stuck 'Starting' when it loads up and doesn't sync
I am a paying customer and very frustrated with Dropbox. I am ready to drop DropBox and look for other alternatives. Since Friday of last week it has been trying to sync 100Gb in files and it is taking an eternity. Now is stuck in "Starting." I have rebooted the Mac (10.6.8). I am using Dropbox 3.0.3. I have tried going to Preferences, holding the option key and "Fixing Permission." I also read in the Internet about deleting the hidden cache folder but I have not done it yet since I don't know what to expect. Any assistance is appreciated.Solved80KViews5likes96CommentsNot seeing my backups on other devices, after updating the Backup feature
Dear All. I have been using Dropbox for over a decade. It would always sync my desktop in such a way that I was able to access any file from my desktop on any of my other devices, including phones and tablets. I love this feature. Recently the desktop app asked me if i want to put my desktop in backup which I accidentally said yes to. I instantly regretted it as I lost Desktop sync and now can no longer access my desktop files on other devices. I turned off backup feature and reinstalled Dropbox to no avail. Please help! I loved desktop sync and have been using it over a decade. It is the FEATURE i use dropbox for. How do I reenable desktop sync? It used to show up as an icon in my Dropbox folder under ‘Mac’ I use a MacBook Pro. Thank you in advance.3.7KViews5likes28CommentsNew Dropbox is killing me
Hello, Is there any support available from Dropbox here or anywhere? Strange to have such a massive app and no support provided.. In any case I'd appreciate any help from anyone. My Dropbox has stopped working as of yesterday. I can't access updated files from one computer to another and trying to read files online is only working randomly. I am using versionv169.4.5684, on Macs running Monterey 12.6. Another question would be, is there anyway to downgrade to the old Dropbox version that I had no problems with before this new buggy version messed everything up? Thanks in advance for any help.4.7KViews5likes14CommentsSTOP Dropbox from backing up external drive
I made the mistake of accepting a request from Dropbox to back up an external drive plugged into my Mac. I didn't stop to think the files in that drive were going to be huge video files that should NOT be backed up to Dropbox. How do I stop the backup of that external drive? The help section says go to the preferences of the Mac Dropbox app and uncheck folders I don't want to be synced. There is NO such option. The only option is to uncheck something about set up notifications for new external drives. There was another help suggestion that suggested right clicking "the backup" and pausing it. WHAT backup?? I don't see the external drive listed anywhere in my Dropbox folder, and right clicking the external drive icon on my desktop doesn't show any Dropbox options. How do I stop this backup without disabling ALL backups?? Thank you for any help on this....Solved17KViews5likes22CommentsHow to disable Smart Sync, really and truly?
Hi all, I know I'm not the first to ask this—Dropbox users have apparently been having problems with it for years now—and maybe there's an answer somewhere in the forum that I simply haven't found yet. Please accept my apologies if so. In the meantime, though, this is starting to drive me absolutely bonkers. All I want is for Dropbox not to use Smart Sync on my Mac. Never. Not ever. Period. I have more than enough space on the external drive where my Dropbox folder lives for 100% of my Dropbox files to be stored locally, and that is how I want them to be stored. When I need access to a multi-GB video file, I'm not interested in waiting a minute or more for Dropbox to upload it to me, because I'm in a production environment and I actually don't have that kind of time. When I tell Dropbox that I need for it to do LESS work, to stop trying to be "smart," and to simply do what I am asking it to do in every preference/setting I've managed to find, why does it not listen? This seems straightforward enough, but it simply isn't being respected, and I can't figure out what else I'm supposed to do so that it will be. I have recently started running an rsync process that clones my entire Dropbox folder, due to other strange behavior (up to and including that entire folder spontaneously disappearing one night and needing to be resynced) that have convinced me that a third form of backup is a business necessity. But that process is fighting an uphill battle, due to the sheer number of files that are simply not there when it asks for them, because Dropbox has chosen to ignore my preferences. My current plan is to complete this clone, however long it takes (I've been trying for almost a week now), to add a cron job that refreshes it every 15 minutes or so, and to switch my production processes so that they access the clone rather than the original folder that Dropbox keeps trying to be "smart" about. I believe that this will work, but it frustrates me to no end that it should be necessary. I have found one article that seems as though it might help: https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/sync-uploads/filesystem-integration#optout This applies only to MacOS 10.15 and earlier (and Windows), but this machine hasn't been upgraded past that point for other reasons, so it may be an option. This is how it's supposed to work: However, when I follow the procedure and turn off the extension, nothing actually appears to happen. I am not signed out, and Smart Sync remains engaged in its quixotic efforts to "help." But even if it did work, wouldn't uninstalling the system extension be overkill anyway? I could be mistaken, but my best guess is that this extension is responsible for more than just Smart Sync and also handles things like Finder integration which I certainly wouldn't want to lose. Thanks for reading. Any suggestions for what to try next would be greatly appreciated.Solved18KViews5likes13Comments
