Hi All, after updating to MacOS 12.3 I have not been able to open project files (Premiere/After Effects) without errors of not finding files that are in dropbox as 'online only'. Prior to the Mac update all files would auto download to be on my machine locally. I know there's an issue with full support for OS 12.3... any updates or solutions folks have found? thanksSolved22KViews8likes102CommentsDropbox desktop app stuck syncing 20 files
Hello, I'm a long time Dropbox user, I've run into an issue with my Dropbox desktop application "Syncing 20 files" constantly for the past few weeks, though I've seemingly not changed anything about how I use the app. This is a problem that's already been well documented in the forums for various reasons, so I'll list all of the things I've tried using other forum posts: MacOS 12.4 (Apple M1) Dropbox v152.4.4880 - Reinstalling the app - Checking dropbox.com settings, like "Early releases" is off "Dropbox system extension" is on "Online-only files on Mac" is on - Checking application settings, like "Enable LAN sync" is off Bandwidth View sync issues (empty) - Usingthe advanced functions in the application settings, like "Fix permissions" "Fix hardlinks" - Check MacOS Activity Monitor - Searching Finder for the files that have the blue syncing status icon - Looking for any file names that have unsupported characters in them There are about 31k files in the main folder, and no individual file is larger than 1 or 2gb, so nothing out of the ordinary there. I saw a few posts about file name or file depth / path length, but I would have no idea where to start with diagnosing that, especially because as far as I've seen, all files are synced properly. When opening up the Dropbox folder, I've Alt-Click to expand and view all files and folders in the drive. I've then slowly scrolled through to view the status of each file and folder (you have to sometimes wait for Dropbox to update that many green checks / blue sync icons). Doing it this way, I couldn't find any file that wasn't either a Green Checkmark or a White Checkmark/Grey Cloud. The onlyfolder that shows a blue sync icon is at the very top level: All other files and folders look something like this: While running, the app isn't taking up a relevant amount of CPU doing this, and it continues to sync new and changed files properly... so that's good. This wouldn't even be such an issue except that if I check network activity in the MacOS Activity Monitor, I can see that sometimes(but not always) it's constantly uploading or downloading packets of data, larger than just a few bytes (like 0.5mb every few seconds). Also worth noting that it will never change to below 20, but for example if I add 1 new file, it will briefly say 21, before that new file then syncs and it returns to being stuck at 20. It may also be worth noting that when first starting the app, it will give a short time estimation to sync the 20 files, which will slowly increase for a few seconds, until it hits 30 or 40s, and then that estimation text will disappear entirely: Does anybody have any additional suggestions on this? My workaround right now is to select "Pause file sync... Until tomorrow" every morning when I log into my computer. Is there a way for the support or dev team to do some sort of hard reset on all my files' sync status or something? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!! I copy download links all day from the Mac Finder. It would be great to assign a key command so that you can highlight a file in your Dropbox via Mac Finder, and press a key command to copy the link instead of right clicking.Solved16KViews41likes67CommentsMac osx - strange extra files appearing when downloading files directly.
Just had a strange issue with some files that I directly downloaded from our DB folders. On the website, I went to one of my shared folders from another team member, and clicked on 2 files (illustrator) and one folder that contained several photoshop images. I chose to direct download option and downloaded them to my desktop. They downloaded to the zip file, like usual. BUT... when I uncompressed the zip file, there was an ADDITIONAL folder named "__MACOSX" - when I opened that, there was a repeat of the same Illustrator files and the PSD folder, but the file names were changed (most had underscores in them). In addition, these files were very small in size (70 bytes for example, when they should have been 3.3MB - same thing for the PSD images they were all around 100kb or less, when they should have been several MB). I asked my co-worker to repeat the process on his computer (different OS that what I'm using, but still on a mac) and he had the same thing happen. Any idea's what's happening? Is this just a glitch? I'm on an imac, running OS 10.11.614KViews4likes71CommentsChanging folder icons
How can I change my Dropbox folder icons and use my own icons? Until recently, I could change icons to my own icon picture, which made working quicker. I use Mac OS Mojave on a MacBook Pro, and use Dropbox from my Mac OS desktop finder window. As of the second week of October, all my icons reverted to generic folder icons and I am not able to change them. Is there a new method, or is there a new Dropbox download that I need? How can I again change my folder icons? (10/24/19)Solved11KViews1like6Comments"The file has been changed by another application."
Over the past couple of weeks, both of my Macs have been telling me that files cannot be autosaved because "The file has been changed by another application." This occurs in multiple applications, including Keynote, Preview, Multimarkdown Composer, and more. The error message says that it has failed when trying to autosave It lets me revert or "save anyway." The latter seems to work properly, although because this is supposed to be an autosave, I can get the popup every few minutes. I am running MacOS 10.13.4 It seems not to happen when I pause Dropbox syncing I am getting the same problem on two Mac laptops I have rebooted I have looked in the logs to see if in fact some other app is altering my files, but I don't see anything suspicious there. OTOH, I'm no expert. I have looked in Activity Monitor for suspicious processes but don't see any obvious suspects. Malwarebytes doesn't find any viruses on either machine Any ideas? Thanks!Solved9.9KViews0likes5CommentsDropbox sync stalling on Big Sur
Dropbox has always worked well for me -- until I updated my (very new) iMac to macOS "Big Sur" (11.1) about a month ago. The issue in a nutshell is that Dropbox will upload changed files for a little bit after starting, then stall entirely, or slow to a creep. It's a little tricky to characterize, because it's not consistent. A few times I quit Dropbix and restarted it and (judging from the "Recent" activity listing in the menubar dropdown) a few files would quickly upload, but then would stall and nothing else would upload, or a few items at random. The little wheel at the bottom of that dropdpwn is turning and says "Syncing XXX files", but nothing seems to happen, and the number of files just keeps going up ... and down ... and up ... it's very difficult to tell what's actually happening or what Dropbx is doing because there doesn't appear to be a sync log I can access. I've tried quitting and deleting the Dropbox app and re-installing. A couple of times when I've done that there would be a burst of upload activity, but then it would stall again, but I can't even get that to happen consistently. Of course Iv'e tried the usual things like restarting and so forth. Another reason it's difficult to in down is that the behavior is so erratic. In one instance a file I put in a particualr Dropbox folder uploaded right away. But in that same folder are things I added WEEKS ago now that have yet to sync. If there's a pattern or characteristic common to things that are not uploading, or when or why Dropbox stalls, or how to kick-start those bursts of uploadeds, I can't identify it. (No clues in "View sync issues". Just a few Outlook emoji that won't upload because they have an emoji in the file name.) I'm feeling stytmied. Suggestions as to things to try welcome, or tools to help figure out what Dropbox is doing or trying to do to help narrow down the issue. (I have about 1.6 TB worth of stuff in Dropbox, though, so solutions that involve re-uploading everything from scratch will not be particularly welcome.) I've Googled around and not been able to identify others with similar issues. Thanks.Solved8.5KViews4likes47Comments
