Dropbox on a new Mac keeps loading under wrong email address.
I loaded Dropbox on a new Mac. Instead of the current Dropbox account, it keeps loading an old one under a different email address. I have followed these recommended steps, but in #4, Dropbox does not offer the option to sign in again that I can find. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times. I have a paid account. Suggestions? "1. Sign out of the app. 2. Open Dropbox.com in your web browser and sign out there as well. 3. Sign in to Dropbox.com using the correct email address. 4. Then try signing back in to the Dropbox app on the computer.
I receive a "Permission denied" error on my macOS Dropbox app and I can't access it.
I've been having issues with opening the Dropbox app in my Mac. No problem using the browser, or accessing on my phone & iPad, but the app just doesn't open only may Mac. How can I sign into a different account on the Dropbox desktop app on Mac?
Hi, I have two accounts: one is the basic plan with a single email, and the other is an upgraded account, but for some reason, it’s linked to a different email address. I accidentally connected the basic account to Finder on my Mac, and now I can’t seem to switch it. I’ve logged into the upgraded account and downloaded the installer multiple times, but it always reverts to the basic account. I’ve also tried linking the accounts without success. At this point, I feel like I must be missing a step and could really use some help to resolve this. Thank you so much Renee
"Additional permissions are required to access files" error on macOS
I am also getting this message. I have read the articles, I have restarted my Macbook etc. etc. It seemed to be working again last week - but now alas I keep getting told additional permissions are required.... I've been using dropboax for a few years now, very happily but now, this issue has been doing my head in for a few weeks now 🤯The app re-indexes all files after each restart on Mac.
Each time I restart my Mac, Dropbox goes through reindexing of (seemingly) all files in my folder. The Mac's CPU usage goes up and the fan kicks in - it makes the computer slow for at least 15 minutes. It does finally complete, but it would obviously be much better if this did not happen.
Getting the file version history on MacOS
I have just noticed something odd regarding versioning in macos files… when I view a TextEdit RTF document on my co-worker's computer, we are able to browse through many versions using 'Revert to…' When I try the same on my local copy synced with dropbox I can only see 3 versions back and the one I'm looking for can't be accessed. Also after we rolled back my co-workers copy of the RTF to an earlier version, my copy still hasn't changed. Does dropbox not support versioning at all?
Dropbox Backup won't recognize external drive on MacOS Sequoia 15.2
Hello, I cannot get my external drive to show up in the "Add a backup" section of the Dropbox Backup. I've read a bunch of posts about this issue and it seems like there is no solution. Some have said erasing and reformatting their drive worked (an absurd "solution"), but that hasn't for me. I've also done all the other suggestions that Dropbox support and others have put forth to no avail. Is there really no fix for this? Apparently people have been having this problem for years now. When I create a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive using macOS (latest version), the Dropbox folder with the synchronized data is displayed correctly only on the original Mac. As soon as I connect the hard drive to another Mac, the folder is shown as 0 kB and cannot be opened. On Mac, Dropbox stopped syncing about two to three weeks ago. In my Dropbox Security settings I see two Devices with identical names, e.g., iMac.lan. (Formerly, I had the three devices allowed by the DropBox Basic plan: iMac, Macbook, and iPhone. Dropbox now complains that I'm trying to use a fourth device: the two identical links to my iMac, my Macbook Pro, and my iPhone. I unlinked my iPhone so that I could try to deal with the iMac.) I unlinked both copies of the link to my iMac, then killed and restarted Dropbox. Trying to start Dropbox, I now see this message: "There's already a folder or file named Dropbox." I cannot use the existing file Dropbox in the default directory, which I believe is {me}/Library/CloudStorage. If I rename the existing Dropbox file and go through the kill/restart process again, I get a different error message: "Error with selected folder -- Can't create a Dropbox folder in the requested location". So I'm stuck. I cannot use Dropbox on either my iMac (MacOS 14.5) or my Macbook Pro. Help, please. So I cannot use Dropbox, and I cannot unlink/relink my DropBox file. I'm stuck. And, BTW, there's a possibly related symptom. DropBox also has stopped syncing with my MacBook Pro.
