This is absolutely crazy that a company the size of DropBox can't figure out how to tag documents. It would SAVE them a crap load of space becuase right now you have to save the same photo to multiple folders which is so cumbersum. If I have 6 people in a photo it would be so much easier to just tag it with the 6 names rather than copy the same photo in to 6 different locations. It would also make finding people so much easier within the thousands of photos taken. Just type the make and search or just click on one of the tags you already set up and all the photos they are in will appear. If DropBox can figure this out then I have to move to another system. Does anyone know of a different cloud storage solution that allows tagging? Does Google Drive allow it?Solved11KViews3likes9CommentsError message "couldn’t communicate with a helper application" when trying to move a folder
Hi, I'm trying to move a folder that contains folders with photos in it from my dropbox to Files App in iPad. Previously it worked wonderfully and i can move them just fine. But, now after i updated to the latest iPad iOS 16.1, i can't move folders from my dropbox to my iPad in the File App. It still works when moving the picture directly though but its a pain to create the folder manually my self. I've tried restarting my iPad, delete my dropbox and re-installing them, and reconnecting them all those stuff but still got those error when moving a folder. Any idea how to fix it? or is it a bug in the iPad iOS 16.1?8KViews1like47CommentsTagging not available
Hi there, I would like to tag files/folders but it isn't giving me the option? I have followed the instructions here https://help.dropbox.com/organize/dropbox-tags but I don't see '#add a tag' on the right-hand panel as it describes? I am using the dropbox.com website and a free account but I thought you could tag for free accounts? Looking into getting a business account if it's only on there! ThanksSolved5KViews0likes12CommentsHow to change naming conventions, and rename content?
Hi, the file renaming feature is really powerful but: I set it up a week ago and I had the choice of the naming convention, now I would like to change it but I can't find it -> can someone help on that? it works well on mobile but I would like the same behavior on Desktop, so if I drop a file in the Dropbox folder, it will automatically rename it and upload with the timestamp ->can someone help on that? thank!2.6KViews0likes14CommentsFiles not syncing after re-organizing them on my desktop
Help! I was doing a massive organization of all my dropbox files (on my desktop, just moving things into different folders within the Dropbox folder, renaming files, deleting duplicates) ... Some things were taking a while but at a certain point I noticed that tons of the folders have red x's and the files within those folders won't open. I get an error that says: "The operation couldn’t be completed. Resource deadlock avoided." A couple things to note: - I'm on a MacBook Pro, running OS Sonoma 14.2.1 (this just got updated today, a couple hours before this!). So maybe there is something with the update? - My MacBook is also full in terms of memory (the hard drive is full). A lotr of my Dropbox files are "online-only" but with all the viewing, cutting, pasting, I might have run into some kind issue with the operations, where they just couldn't be performed anymore - I've emptied my trash, cleared my cache, deleted un-used apps ... - When I login to Dropbox on the web, it looks different (it looks like how it looked yesterday, but doesn't reflect all the cleanup and reorg I did today). Help! I don't want to lose files of course. And I've done so much cutting, pasting, renaming it's getting confusing. One of the things I did was move a lot of stuff over from icloud to Dropbox, to have things more consolidated. Those things are no longer in icloud. So simply reverting to yesterday's version will be bad bc I will lose all these new icloud files that i tried to move in. Appreciate your help. OF COURSE its midnight on Friday so there is no Dropbox support for two days. It actually seems insane they do not have better support given how expensive the business plan is. But in any event I really appreciate any advice you can share! HaleySolved2.5KViews0likes3CommentsLinux syncing with an External Drive
I have been unable to sync DropBox folder to an external drive. I have an NVMe drive and a 4tb external and the limited interface of Dropbox does not display my other drives when I go to change prefences. I am using MXLinux and Mint Any suggestions would be appreciated2.2KViews0likes5CommentsTagging items in shared folders
I currently have the Basic plan and need to tag items in a non-profit's Business Advanced shared folder. If I upgrade to the individual Professional plan, can I do this, or do I have to have a license under their plan? I'm trying not to force them to add an Advanced license just for my use in a single shared folder. I hope this is clear. Thanks in advance.Solved2KViews0likes6CommentsDropbox folder aliases don't work as expected
Perhaps this is expected behavior but I didn't expect it 😟 I have long had aliases for folders in Dropbox placed in other (non Dropbox) folders, for ease of navigation. So I have two such folder aliases in a third folder (this one in my User folder). When I click on each of these folder aliases (in column view), I see the contents of the folders, each item with a green check (most of my Dropbox files are set for Offline viewing and have downloaded). But when I tried to drag a file from one of the folder aliases to the other, nothing happened! Normally, the dragged file would immediately move to the other folder, but it did not. In addition, when I tried to drag another file from the desktop (which is not backed up, BTW, in Dropbox) to the folder alias, it would not move; it just stayed on the desktop. If I clicked on the folder alias, so that the contents of the folder were visible, and dragged the file to the list, it moved as expected. To move the first file from folder to folder, I had to first move it to the desktop (confirming that I wanted to move the folder out of Dropbox), click on the second folder alias to reveal the contents, and then drag it to the list (not the alias--that doesn't work!) I did go to Dropbox and found the two folders referenced by alias and it was easy to move a file from one folder to the other, but I don't know why it wouldn't work to move files into Dropbox folders referenced by alias???? Thanks!Solved2KViews0likes5Comments
