You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
Permissions
36 TopicsI've set passwords for my shared links, but non team members don't get asked for one.
I have set passwords on folders I need to share with people who are not team members. (added a password to editing dan viewing links and saved it) When I test this it by sending the link to an email address not part of the team it does not ask for a password. Any suggestions?Solved7.8KViews0likes17CommentsPDF "view only" share link continues to allow editing
I have edited both my profile settings and the pdf settings specifically to generate a "view only" link. However, every time I go to share the link I continue to see on the top bar that the pdf is editable. Not only is it editable but anyone can edit it for everyone. What do I need to do to change this? I have even logged out of my Dropbox account and used the link to see if it changed anything, it did not. My PDF is clickable with links but, I have tried other PDf's that were not to see if it changed anything and it did the same thing. I need a view only link. How do I get this?Solved2.9KViews0likes7CommentsI have edit permissions on some folders but I'm getting an error editing or renaming files
I have a set of folders which were shared with me. The owner gave me edit permissions, and tried to give me all possible permissions - but I cannot edit or rename or change any of the files. From the Dropbox web interface, asking permissions, it shows two things - 1) You don't have permission to manage the membership of this file, 2) (my email ID) = can edit So it seems like I should be able to edit or rename the file(s), but I cannot. The original (sharing) owner is also shown. But - Trying to rename one of the files on Windows from the explorer interface fails; "You need permission from myComputer\myName to perform this action" But, that is who I am logged in as, and it has admin privileges. Same for trying to duplicate it in place or create a new file there; "Destination Folder access denied, you need permission to perform this action." I can read or open or copy the file to any other place outside of the shared hierarchy. Asking Windows about permissions on the file, it shows I so have full permissions. Asking about my specific user ID (as above) for effective permissions: It does show I can read files and change permissions, take ownership, and read and write attributes, but not create files or write data (?) What permissions do the owner who is sharing it with me need to set, and how? (I could not get insert image to work here...)Solved2.2KViews0likes21CommentsWhy do i keep getting emails asking for permission to access a shared file?
I have shared files that are available with a public link for anyone to download. I have been doing this for years, but with my latest file I am getting automated emails asking for permission to access the file. The shared link should work for everyone. I even tested it by logging out and then accessing the file and downloading it and it never triggered an email asking me for permission. Anyone know how I can fix this? Are these people actually being blocked from accessing the file, or is the automated email a mistake?1.6KViews0likes3CommentsDropbox not uploading camera photos on OneUI Beta 6.0 Samsung S23+
S23+ Phone updated to OneUI Beta 6.0 last week and I lost the ability to have Dropbox autoupload camera photos. On the Dropbox settings page, a warning icon "!" is next to "Camera Uploads". Click on that line and an error pops up "To enable camera uploads, allow Dropbox to access..." with a link to settings. If i shrink the system font down a few notches the error message actually continues as "To enable camera uploads, allow Dropbox to access to your storage". Click to permissions for the App and permissions for "Camera, Notifications, Photos and Videos" are allowed. On the Android permissions page for Dropbox, click the 3 dot menu top right and pick "All Permissions". Under "Photos and Videos" it has permissions on for "read image and video files" and "user selected image and video files". It also has "full network access". So it looks like to me it has all the necc permissions. Dropbox support didn't get it either. Any thoughts? Is there a "storage access" permission somewhere that OneUI 6.0 turned off?Solved1.5KViews0likes6CommentsWeird issue via Dropbox on Web
When I am trying to share a folder and look at the Team Members list dropdown it opens behind and I cant access it. Has anyone seen this issue? I have opened the dropbox via another browser and even with incognito window and it still has the same behavior.1.3KViews0likes3CommentsThe update button on the webpage is gray
The update button on the DropBox webpage is grayed out and cannot be clicked. It shows that I do not have permission to upload files. My account is a business account and I am the administrator of the team. I want to know what caused this.854Views0likes5CommentsConsolidate all shared link options, so that we don't accidentally give edit rights
OK. I feel that most users, and certainly me, want a super easy way to create View hyperlinks (to share with friends) as opposed to Edit hyperlinks. The way you guys designed the Dropbox web interface is extremely confusing. There are so many different sharing windows -- Settings, the "chain link" icon, the Share folder button. There is no rhyme or reason how this works. When I go into the Settings or use the Manage option, it brings me to a settings box where apparently I can create Edit and View links -- but there's NO WAY TO COPY THEM from that window!! Like seriously, who came up with this crazy nonfunctional design??? Then when I set the settings, and return and use the "chain link" icon, it creates an Edit only link, EVERY TIME REGARDLESS OF ME attempt to set up a View only link! This is hard to catch and that is why I am so worked up about it. I do NOT generally want people Editing my files! I want them to VIEW my files. And I don't want to make a MISTAKE as to which type of link I'm sending, because sending Edit rather than View would destroy my files! I have to cross my fingers and hope that I find the right UI "path" to copy my hyperlinks, and say a prayer and make the Sign of the Cross just praying praying that I'll find the right option!! Please take a look at this insane user design and please fix it ASAP! So crazy how complicated you've made something that should be extremely simple.832Views0likes3CommentsShared link permissions settings not working
Hi, I need your help - I have created a shared folder and added all the restrictions possible for a can view option including password protected, only people invited can view, and download disabled. In short, none of this works, as soon as I share the file with anyone (on the can view option of course) they can view (password wasn't asked), download, share via the create a share link and even edit the files! I spoke with the support and they said that they would escalate but that was two days ago and I really need to send these files ASAP. appreciate your help.823Views0likes4Comments
