Why are files shared with me counted against my space usage? Is this data counted twice? If someone who is sharing files with me is paying for this space, why should I have to pay as well just to access it? I am out of space, I have no intention of buying more space, and yet, when someone shares some files with me, I cannot access them and I am forced to buy space in order to access them. Why is this? Thank you.Solved25KViews4likes143CommentsWhy can't I upload into a shared folder?
I was invited by another Dropbox user to share files with him into folders on his account that he created. He pays for a ton of storage. But when I upload anything into his folder, it counts against my basic, free account and I keep getting a 'run out of storage' error. How can I share files with the user requesting them and use HIS storage and not mine? Thanks so much!Solved6.5KViews0likes8CommentsAccessing a Shared Folder using Free Account
Help! I have a client that uses Dropbox and has shared a folder with me (4 GB currently). In order to access the folder, Dropbox said I need to sign up for an account. I signed up for a free account but now Dropbox is saying I can't access the shared folder because it is too big. Do I really have to buy a silly account to access a folder that isn't even mine? This folder is the only thing I am going to use Dropbox for, so I really don't want to have to pay for something I don't personally need. I'm doing this work pro bono because they are a nonprofit and would hate for either of us to have to pay more than necessary to just access shared photos and videos of rescue animals. Thanks for the help!5KViews1like4CommentsStorage and Shared Folders
A team member shared their folder with me so that I can upload things to her account. I help her manage her business by creating graphics for it. She pays for 2 TB's per month. I have a basic account. I am now being told that I have run out of space and cannot upload to her shared folder. Why? I am uploading to her account not mine. Her shared folder should not count against my storage space. Why is this happening? Thanks.Solved4.3KViews1like13CommentsNot enough space to add a shared folder, but there should be enough space
Hi. I wanted to add a shared folder, but received a message telling me I don't have enough free space to do so. This surprised me because the folder has a size of 2 GB and I have 2 GB of free space - there is nothing else in my account that could take up any space. My colleagues who were invited to add the same folder & have the 2 GB Basic Dropbox Account just like me had no problems. How can I fix my problem?3.9KViews0likes15Commentsshared links vs folders and use of storage space
I am confused about the difference between shared links and shared folders. here it says that if I create a shared folder it uses my storage space but if I create a link it doesn't https://help.dropbox.com/storage-space/storage-space but it seems they are basically the same now, as in if you create a link you are doing the same thing as if you create a shared folder. is this article out of date? I was wanting to create a link to share some large files and so that it is not included in the recipient's storage space, but whenever they receive the link (or shared folder invitation), it just asks them to join the folder, and the files are included in their storage space anyway. is there no option to just share a link any more and for the recipient to see the files but not have them included in their storage space? or how do I do this? thanks!3.6KViews0likes20CommentsSome files shows 0 byte
So I have some files showing 0 bytes on Dropbox website. When I try to download individually a file, it's gonna be a 0 byte file and when I try to open it with a text editor it's empty. When I use an app to synchronise files on Windows with the app, it still show 0 byte et and it's empty. But If I download the whole folder from dropbox website, the files have the correct size... And I can use them. It's seems to be only font files for now. (I haven't checked my whole 3To of data yet). Any ideas to fix it ?1.9KViews0likes6CommentsHow do I locate large files/folders on the web (not laptop)
I have a free version with a limit of 16.3GB. I normally have about 13-15GB in use, so around 85-90%. This morning DB tells me it can no longer sync, and apparently I have used 32.5GB of my allowed quota of 16.3GB! Yesterday I'd only used about 14GB. How can I find out what these files are? Is there any to search (on the web as the laptop can't sync) for files or folders over a certain size? I've no idea what's going on but am now unable to use DB. Any advice gratefully received. Hi, in my settings it says I am on Dropbox Basic plan 2GB. Under refer-a-friend it says I've earned 3.75GB as follows: 1 referral at 500MB Getting started 250MB (2013) Cameral uploads bonus 3GB (2012) Total bonus space earned 3.75 GB Under Plan it says I'mUsing5.63 GBof 5.75 GB However my computer tells me my Dropbox folder is using about 3.2 GB. I could accept a discrepancy between 3.2 and 3.63, however 3.2 is way less than 5.63. It looks as if my total space is really only 3.75GB and that the standard 2GB has got lost somewhere along the way. Any thoughts about this and how to get my original 2GB space back? Many thanks!Solved1.7KViews0likes9CommentsSince when do you have to PAY to view a shared folder?
A client shared has shared rather large files from their dropbox account and I'm unable to view them without paying for a dropbox account, what in the world is this dark pattern money gouging effort by dropbox?!. My business does not use Dropbox (and hasn't intentionally since it started going downhill in 2014.)Solved1.6KViews0likes9Comments
