Hello ! I have no files on my Dropbox Basic, but connected to 2.3 GB shared files. The shared files are not my files – someone else is paying a fee to store them on Dropbox. Is that an error that Dropbox is asking me to upgrade for accessing the shared files or just a way for Dropbox to get paid twice...?! I use dropbox occasionally. I have a free account, one I've had for years. This morning I logged in to access some files a friend shared w/me & dropbox will not let me access it unless I upgrade to some "plan". That page is the same page with which I was greeted upon logging in. I'm at about 650 mg of my 2G free account limit. I am not over storage, unless my free account has been somehow restricted/modified. A coworker sent me a referral. I have a brand new laptop and a new dropbox account. I followed the link in my email and signed up but the referrals page says ineligible. I searched and it suggested I needed to be on a different network, I tried connecting to my VPN and restarted dropbox but no luck. I'm on a free account and have had 6gigs of capacity since 2015 (in 2013 I had some 24 month promotional storage; that ended in 2015 and I've been at 6gigs of capacity since then; I even still have the email that says my account is dropping to 6gigs). I've been at about 5.75gigs of usage for years now. I don't have it connected to backup devices or anything like that. I use it for mostly cold storage of mostly small files. All of a sudden about half an hour ago, Dropbox stopped syncing. I hopped online to see what was up. It said I had a 2gig plan and was over my limit. I clicked around some more trying to get more information and now it's saying I've used up 5.75gigs of my 5.75gig capacity. I suspect surely this has to be an error. Any ideas? I just got a new computer that came with a 12month 100GB dropbox storage amount. I got an email confirming that I linked it all correctly but their maths is off How do I get the extra 100GB? I have deleted all of my Dropbox files and my account is still over-quota. How can this be corrected? I have deleted all files I can see online and on my desktop and yet I am still over capacity. There is no active backup in place. All posts related to this are shown resolved with zero offering of HOW except the repeated request to look at backups. I have none. Most interesting is that the icon for further information indicates " files added to replay from dropbox do not use storage".... And then this?! I use Basic Dropbox for almost 20 years. I recommended dropbox to many colleagues, so I regularly owned an additional 0.5 GB because of that. I ended up with 20+ gig. Because I trusted the security, I stored some very imprtant files, such as Trust account backups and Wills. All of a sudden Dropbox decided to downsize my storaga and many of my super important data disappeared. This is without any warning or notifications. I want the data back. I recently added paid service hopin for the data to show up, but no luck. I am super pissed of course and I want a resoution asap.
