Hi all, I received a very legit-looking email from a colleague (it was from her exact email address, signed off how she would do etc) which had a PDF attached for me to view. When I clicked on the attachment (via my iPhone), it opened my Dropbox app but turned into a Word doc on there (see attached computer screenshot). When I clicked on that (which is what I shouldn't have done!) it went to a Microsoft Outlook login page - needless to say I didn't log in! Now the Word doc (Klip Global.docx) is in my Dropbox account and won't allow me to delete it (it doesn't come up as an option on the '...' ). I have changed my Dropbox password and the TFA method (removing my phone number) but I want this dodgy file to be gone! Any ideas please? Many TIA, Adam19Views0likes3CommentsHow safe is Dropbox? Can they access user information?
I was going to start using Dropbox, but before creating an account, I came across the Privacy & Security concerns section on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dropbox. And the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Dropbox expands on the information. So, in 2024, how safe IS Dropbox? Can Dropbox employees really access users' information & what about the claim that Dropbox has ownership of users' data?34Views0likes4CommentsI'm trying to enter my account, but I'm asked for a code sent to an inaccessible email address.
I've got an account [removed per Community Guidelines] with lots of information in it. I've had this account for more than ten years. I recently lost access to this email account. I know the password. I have a new computer. When I attempt to log into the account, I am told that a message has been sent to the inaccessible email account with an access number I will need to log in. So, I can't log in because I can't get the number. I've tried the alternate form that allows you to enter other information to bypass the code, but it never accepts what I've entered. In 2021, I purchased a Dropbox plus account [removed per Community Guidelines] to increase my account storage. The two accounts appeared to have melded into one and I continued to add content. Now, all that appears in that account are two folders that were shared by others to the new account. I welcome any solutions or suggestions. I desperately need access to those data. I have not accessed my account in months, and then I tried to access the account over the summer and used my logging credentials and was told that there was no account under the email. I had thousands of photos from my work as a photographer and my travels, and they are now all gone. I had to create a new account. I have no way to contact support about what happened.20Views0likes3CommentsEnhancing security for Dropbox folders on shared macOS systems
Dear Dropbox Team, This post is to express a security concern regarding the recent update that mandates the Dropbox folder's location at /Users/[username]/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox on macOS systems. While this change aligns with Apple's guidelines, it introduces a vulnerability on shared computers. Issue: On shared macOS devices, administrators have the ability to: Reset user passwords, thereby gaining access to all user files, including those in the Dropbox folder. Modify file permissions or utilize root access to navigate into user directories. These capabilities mean that, despite enabling FileVault for disk encryption, an administrator can still access another user's Dropbox files. Request: To address this security concern, I propose the following enhancements: Support for Encrypted Volumes: Allow users to store the Dropbox folder on encrypted disk images or volumes. This would add an additional layer of security, ensuring that even if an administrator accesses the user account, the Dropbox files remain protected. User-Defined Folder Locations: Provide flexibility for users to choose the location of their Dropbox folder. This would enable the use of custom security measures, such as storing the folder in a more secure directory or on an external encrypted drive. Implementing these features would significantly enhance data security for users on shared macOS systems, aligning with Dropbox's commitment to safeguarding user information. Thank you for considering this request. I look forward to your response and any potential solutions to this concern. An unauthorized person hijacked our basic Dropbox account and sent an email invite to an undisclosed number of recipients. The content of the email invite may have malicious content/link to a .pdf file. We noticed the unusual behavior as the owner of the Dropbox account was overseas (unaware) and the recipients tried to contact the Dropbox owner to see if it was legit or not. We reset the password and set the 2-factor authentication. However, today a ‘Reminder’ email notification was sent out by the same account to an unknown number of recipients. Questions: How do you determine (who) the email addresses the initial invitation email was sent to and the number of recipients? We want to send an email blast to warn them not to click on the link in the invite. How do you disable the reminder email notification of the original invitation? Any other advice? Shall we delete this account? Thank you in advance for any advise or recommendations. LPJ20Views0likes1CommentAccidentally deleted account. Can it be restored?
