Dropbox website has broken playback of HEVC (h.265) videos
Audio plays fine but there is not video content from the video player.
No extensions and no add blocking, developer tools show a lot of server side errors (over 30)

I am not seeing a way to attach the error log for the server side issues

2 years agoHey Charles S, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.
Certain file types cannot be previewed on our website and .hevc files should be one of them, but were you able to preview them before?
Do you get the same behavior with other browsers as well?
And you should be able to see a little camera icon right above the reply box, when you click on the "reply" button to attach your screenshot.
Thanks in advance for your reply!

The audio plays just fine from the .hevc (h.265) file but the video playback fails. I am not talking about the app, I am talking about the website (as mentioned in the title).
HEVC (h.265) was published almost a decade ago and the next gen of digital TV in the US will be using h.265 aka HEVC

,Forum bug will not let me edit my other reply,
Other browsers lack support for .hevc playback (Edge on Win 10+ require a paid codec for playback)

Hi Charles S, do you see any errors when you try to preview your file online?
Have you tried previewing it from either the mobile app, or the desktop app?
Also, it seems that .hevc is a codec. Is the file type the same, or maybe a .mov or .mp4?

Desktop app just uses the built in player to the OS, and the website should be able to do the same in the browser (can do feature detection so you don't have broken code browser sniffing).
