How to View a Shared File???

I received 2 emails that said a client shared 2 files with me via Dropbox. In each email, there is a View File blue button to click, which I did. I was then prompted to create a Dropbox account which I did. I opened a free basic acct. In my "Shared" folder [left-hand Nav], I  see what I think are two files shared with me -- they are large video files. When I click on them, I see the message that they are previews and in order to see the full file, I must "add them to my Dropbox."

These files are too large to download. I have tried that.

How THE HECK do I add these shared files to my Dropbox??? Thank you.

  • Thank you, Jay. I believe the issue is neither the sharer nor I has the proper account level to share such a large file in a way that will allow me to 1) view the entire file and 2) download the file. The download times out -- I do not get an actual error message. Thanks! Looks like we will need to explore a different account level options or some other workaround.

Hi VLCK, thanks for messaging the Community!

If these are shared files, they should be visible on the Dropbox site on this page. Depending on their plan, you'll be able to preview the videos on the site to a certain time limit

What error do you get when trying to download the files? If your account doesn't have enough quota, you won't be able to add them to your account.

This will help me to assist further!
