Recover one of the deleted files and then look at the previous version history for it. It will show you which account/device was used to delete it. That's where you need to look.

    John,

If you're a Dropbox for Business customer then you have access to phone support. The phone number and required PIN can be found in your admin console.

If you're a Basic or Pro customer, you can contact support by opening a ticket.

    Open your ticket here: https://www.dropbox.com/support
    Track your ticket here: https://dropbox.zendesk.com

Replies take approximately 1 - 3 business days with Pro users getting priority (longer for Basic users).

I had almost 5000 files deleted when I was flying and not connected to the internet.  It took them 4 days to restore these files.  I just had another large file showing as deleted on 3/17/16 (which I did not do), so I restored it, but it only restored the folders and none of the files.  I found the files and it says I deleted it 5/20/16 (again when I was on a plane).  So I deleted the folder on 3/17 according to the events page, but I deleted it on 5/20 according to version history.

I fixed it. Same issue. Notifications of files one after another being deleted. Checked events and it was my account. Changed password, was still happening. Started thinking I was hacked but not the case. Too random in its' selection. Saw this thread. someone said it was their phone. So i logged into app and 'signed out'. The deletions stopped.

Now after 10min no additional deletions by my phone after signing back on with new password. Not thinking the password was the trick, but thats a step I took. My guess its my phone that started doing it. Or some bug with my phone app. I'm on a iphone 6 btw. Other guy said it worked with his android.

    good luck..

ps. anyone know a trick to restore all photos instead of one by one. Taking too long

    nevermind... it was my girlfriend

My account was hacked, no question. Almost all the files I lost were photos, well over 2000 of them. Many featuring all the early photos I took of my 3 year old. I have my suspicions as to where the hacking is coming from. Fortunately, I have backups of everything elsewhere for just this eventuality.

Our company sufferred the similar error. Files are deleting themselves, it seems worse day by day (even deleting folders). Virus could be ruled out as a possible cause 'coz the whole system was always protected by PRO Anti-virus software. Our deletion is also eliminated 'coz noone did it. As can be seen by some comments of superusers here, dropbox could not auto delete files.

We're asking our IT contractor to find out the reason and fix it.

So what am I supposed to do when the Events show me restoring files and folders but doesn't like when they were deleted?

No technological program is infallible and it's absolutely outrageous that you would sit there and spout this same nonsense about how Dropbox just couldn't be responsisble and we all must be massive screw-ups.

        Seriously.
