- Your response sounds like a bot. Are you a bot? If not please respond to the question instead of skirting around it and giving bot like generated responses. Will you reinstate this feature that we so obviously like and need?
I want to set up Selective Sync, and I used tobr able to do it with the Desktop App. How can I do that now?
Please don't insult the user community by telling us about all the great new stuff that Dropbox has when you're taking away something we've been counting on.

Im narrowing down what system to migrate to.. and they all have a few perks over Dropbox, they all have a few cons to Dropbox..
But none of them are what Im used to in being a Dropbox user forever.. ughWell by the looks of it Dropbox does not care if they lose business. I was chatting on Discord with a few friends about it, one friend said that the company he works for has 60+ people and they are complaining about the "New and Improved Dropbox" changes so they are shopping around for something new. They have contacted Dropbox but have not received an answer from a human, only a bot. I just looked it up and 60 people using Dropbox cost $1,250.00 a month or $12,000.00 a year if they don't care about that then they definitely don't care about us.
- You can still control Selective Sync and local files thru the preferences for the Mac desktop integration. As a Mac user I can’t say the same for Windows but would expect it’s probably similar
What's available on Mac has no relevance whatsoever for non-Mac users. Please forgive the diatribe, but the Mac world is based on a model of appealing aesthetics, monopoly pricing, and aggressive use of intellectual-property laws. It is diametrically opposed to the philosophy of open source.
Blah blah blah... Unfortunately, but what you are offering now is not enough and totally incomprehensible. In that case, I and my entire company will start looking around for another solutions...
Yes; i think i need to look at other ways to streamline my workflow; the Web page good for quick and easy document workflow..
This is horrible. We need the application to be separate from all our files. Its causing a lot of issues.
I was going to ask why my desktop app was not working. I am GLAD I found this post. I was about to upgrade to to Advanced Business for a Business I am starting. I really liked the Desktop App but with out it not getting a business acct.. Google Workspace here I come.
I agree that the Desktop was redundant in some ways, but some functions were really usefull, as described above.
I specifically liked the abilty to use the great search function in Desktop, and then to be taken to a specific file in Win Explorer - big loss.
Unfortunately, it seems syptomatic of DropBox's somewhat erratic progresses: introduce something half-heartedly, let it barely survive for a while, then make it disappear. Paper is another example: I started to look into it, but it fail to see the real benefits. Same for Passwords: Could be great but lacks commitment...
I appreciate Dropbox focussing on what they're good at: Cloud. But it may make sense to work on some cloud-boosting features.I think the problem maybe was some users didnt know that the desktop app was available in the format in preferences as below.. i know this because other Dropbox users in our office didnt know how to set if to show this on their PC.

Guys i think we are going around in circles with this.. and it not looking good for coming back.. the website is C##p , and im getting sick of pop-up email from Dropbox about post.. time to cancel the community email notifications..
the Dropbox APP, definitely helped us stay organized and work more efficiently. Now it's just a really bad joke.

- efficient for whom?? not my workflow you have destroyed pretty much every reason I used Dropbox for my photography business you killed the desktop app you destroyed the Android app you added hidden restrictions keeping me from even downloading my files to abandon your crummy platform how exactly are you helping efficient workflow I can't download folders to my phone any longer I can't access project files on the go my workflow deals with 1gb+ files in multitudes and you service corrupts them any time I try and download them
First of all, my content is definitely not safe with dropbox. All my data and edits since Dec 27, 2021 are all gone! I've been using dropbox for years and I last edited docs on June 4, 2022. I've been editing files everyday this year, but those edits are all gone. I go to Europe for 2 weeks, come back and all my files reverted back to Dec 27, 2021 and Jan 17, 2022. Dropbox support is not helping and they can't figure out why my edits got deleted. They just keep telling me that I haven't accessed anything in my dropbox since Dec 27, 2021. Really?? All my finances, photos, work expenses....ALL GONE! I'm furious! I didn't receive any notifications that the desktop app was being discontinued. I would have backed up all my files to Google Drive. I'm in the process of transferring ALL my dropbox files to other sources because dropbox cannot be trusted! I will then close my account. I have already told everyone I know to get rid of their dropbox because content is not safe there.

Hi rachoo78, the Dropbox desktop application still exists, and has always been around since it was introduced. The only thing that changed was the relatively recent file navigator in the desktop app, which was introduced and then discontinued later.
The icon in the system tray/menu bar is technically the Dropbox desktop application, as when you click it, you can access your preferences for the app.
When the file navigator app was discontinued, nothing else was removed, so your files should still have been syncing via the tray icon.
However, from what you've described, it's possible that either the files weren't syncing properly, or there's other issues such as a second Dropbox account involved.
Thanks @Jay for your response. However, my dropbox was syncing properly up until around June 4, 2022. I last accessed my files on that date and everything was there. It even stated that I last modified my documents on June 4, 2022. Now when I go into the exact same spot I have always accessed my files, it says last modified Dec 27, 2021 and anything I added after that date is gone. I don't have a separate dropbox account and never have. Dropbox did some type of update between June 4 and June 19th that reverted my account back to 2021. I thought maybe it was an excel issue, or Microsoft issue, but it's definitely a dropbox issue since ALL my dropbox files have been affected. I have contacted my attorney since this has caused so much anguish and stress and I will be using hundred of hours to try and recreate what has been lost. Some data like photos are just permanently gone, unfortunately. This has happened in the past, but only affected one file, that I know of and I just recreated the spreadsheet. I complained to dropbox and they couldn't do anything about it. Luckily I had copies of that file that I had emailed to people. But this time, it affected my personal and business finances, which is unrecoverable.
The Dropbox Desktop App works with three other programs that I use - TxDocs, ScanSnap Home, and MyCase. The web app does not work with any of them. This is a problem. Also, it would be nice if Dropbox Professional worked with those three programs and if I could use and pay for the HelloSign unlimited signatures add on to my DropBox package. But without the Desktop App or at least its capabilities and interface with the other programs, I really don't need Dropbox.
Second Question: Can I have two DropBox packages at the same time. I need Professional and either the Personal or the Family package, especially if one package works with the HelloSign addon and my other programs and another does not.

When it comes to your second concern, note that connecting accounts is available to Dropbox users on one of our Business plans.
Basic, Plus, Family, and Professional accounts on the other hand can't be linked with each other. Also, Dropbox Business accounts can't be linked with other Dropbox Business accounts.
