Having this issue over the past several months. Saw another thread where others were having the same issue, but that thread was locked. I copy a file from one subfolder in Dropbox to another subfolder on my Sonoma 14.5 Mac, (Dropbox v199.4.6287) and then I can't rename the file. This doesn't happen every time, but has happened a couple of times in the last 4 months since Jan 2024, and may have started happening before that. Other files in the same folder have the Dropbox Quick Actions context menu items when I right click on them. This file does not. I can open the file, change contents, and save, and that works. I can copy the file with a ctrl-c / cntrl-v in the same folder, and then the copy of the file appears to inherit the same problem, I can't rename it either. I can delete the file. A menu item "Do not sync" is not available in the right click menu for this specific file, although not in the Dropbox Quick Actions section of the right click menu. If I quit the Dropbox app, still can't rename the file, start Dropbox back up, still can't rename the file. Force quitting the Finder, which then automatically restarts, all the finder windows ... does work! So letting others know this is a workaround for this problem rather than rebooting the whole computer, which also works. But this does appear to be a bug around something with file copying in Dropbox folders, unless it's a Mac OS level bug. I noticed after restarting the Finder that the little green circle with the check-box next to the filename is back, which wasn't showing before, so there was something going on with Dropbox integration with the finder perhaps.1.9KViews0likes13CommentsUnable to save a file after editing it on my Mac
Hi There I'm getting a problem in Macbook Finder. I open a file and after I amend it, I am unable to save it. I get the following screen. It tells 'me' I can 'Read & Write" but also tells 'me' that 'you can only read.' Working with the same files online seems to work fine. Hope someone can help132Views0likes1CommentDesktop files have disappeared from my Mac desktop, yet again - but visible in my Mac backup folder
This has happened to me many times, and each time I fixed it by laboriously looking for missing files on my Mac and restoring them from an attached backup drive. However, I don't have access to that drive at the moment. Fortunately, the files can be seen by navigating to the backups folder in the Dropbox web page. I saw some other postings about the backup no longer mirroring the files but rather copying them to a backup folder. This is fine with me - the old organization was confusing. But, how do I restore from the Dropbox BackUp folders to my empty Mac folders? If I navigate to the "Mac" folder under the dropbox in my Finder, the desktop folder is empty (well, it contains a test file I just made but all the former desktop files are gone.)108Views0likes1CommentI'm getting conflicted copies of my Photos Library on Mac
Hi I had set up my mac so that my Photo library accessed and opened my files on Dropbox Back up. However, since Apple stopped users being able to sync Photos with Dropbox mid year, I have some photo libraries with a back up with over 3000 'conflicted copies' folders (see screen of the beginning with original folders I assume). I have now stopped accessing the photo libraries in Back up via my Photos app in Mac but how do I find my original photo files amongst all the conflicted folders? thanks Jon126Views0likes1CommentThis is an unlinked Dropbox on Mac Sonoma 14.5
I cannot access files stored in the dropbox location untill I copy an individual file and paste it elsewhere, how do I fix this whenever I also try to connect it says Your device couldn't connect to server. There might be a problem with the server or network2.2KViews0likes23CommentsWhat happens to my files when Dropbox Support reverts the file deletions on my account?
Hey All. Somehow most of my dropbox files were deleted. We'll call it an "incident" but I'm fairly certain that translates to "user error". The Dropbox team is in the process of reverting my entire dropbox to a date and time prior to the "incident". I'm a little unclear what happens after that. After the "Incident" my MacBook synced overnight and deleted all the files from my dropbox folder on my hard drive. Once my cloud files are restored/reverted won't the first sync just re-delete everything and mirror what is currently on my MacBook?135Views0likes1CommentDropbox syncing after computer restart from Time Machine backup: Will I end up with duplicate files?
I had to restart my computer from a Time Machine backup and am trying to re-sync my Dropbox files. This is especially important because the backup was recorded 4 days before the computer issue and I had done quite a bit of work after that point that Dropbox saved. When reconnecting Dropbox back up I selected "Online Only", but now I'm worried because before the computer scrub I had the files "Available Offline". I'm not sure how many files I actually have on Dropbox (I see that it's indexing 27,770 files) but I'm worried this number includes dupliucates. Suggestions? Also, the indexing is going PAINFULLY slow. At this point it has been more than 20 hours and it's like watching paint dry.205Views0likes2CommentsIf I'm moving a file from folder to folder, is it leaving behind a cloud copy?
I bought my first new MacBook in seven years and am seeing new behaviors in DropBox. I could be mistaken, but it seems as though a file I moved from one folder to another in my Finder DropBox folder, left me with two files - one in the new location that is local and seemingly another in the old location that's only in the cloud (marked by that cloud icon). Is there a blanket setting I can use such that all files should always be local as well as being shared to the Cloud? (And not leave behind duplicates) new MB is Sonoma 14.6 DropBox 2024 v 208.4.5824 Thanks in advance for any help. Paul147Views0likes1Comment
