Windows
40 Topics"View your recycle bin for Dropbox" - how can I disable this?
I'm not sure if it's a recent addition or if I simply didn't notice it before, but recently, at the bottom of the open "Recycle Bin" on Windows, it has a bar along the bottom that says "View your recycle bin for: Dropbox", with 'Dropbox' a link that opens my Dropbox account in the browser. Is there any way to turn this off? It's not a useful feature for me, and it takes up screen space that could be used for displaying more of the Recycle Bin contents. Thanks.Solved2.3KViews2likes14CommentsA certain icon overlay doesn't work in Windows
I have been working to resolve issues regarding icon overlays. After reading a lot of posts on this forum, I figured out how to edit my registry and move Dropbox overlays to the top of the list, giving them priority. This worked - with one odd exception. The icon for mixed state files won't display no matter what I do. According to this link, that should be DropboxExt09. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Shell_Icon_Overlay_Identifiers) I realize this is a minor issue. But having spent a lot of time on the general issue, I am hoping someone can help me fix this one quirk. I decided to organize some photos within camera uploads into folders. The folders ended up being created within a specific camera uploads subfolder, I don't know how/why. When I create a test folder under camera uploads, it is created under that same camera uploads subfolder when I look at it through the webpagebut in my windows file finder underneath /desktop/dropbox it shows it under the folder, not under the subfolder. I attempted to move one of my 2 week old, unshared folders with photos in it out of the subfolder into the camera uploads folder, Dropbox confirmed doing that, but looking on the webpage nothing has changed, and the 2 week old folder remains under the subfolder. I attempted the same thing, with a new (empty) folder, and it was entirely removed from the file structure on the webpage (thus, destroyed, not moved?), while my windows file structure shows it having been moved. Also, weirdly, between Sep 7 when I did my file sorting binge and when I next looked at camera uploads, I discovered that the 6 months of uploads roughly prior to that had all been moved to this same, imperialistic subfolder that seems intent on taking over other folders and photos. My link to Dropbox in my apps and startup menus also no longer works, but that's been true for at least months. Maybe this has something to do with Dropbox having a local copy of camera uploads on my hard drive, that I attempted months ago to stop having on my hard drive because of space constraints? Ideally I would like to be able to create and move subfolders where I want them, and be able to find them in the same place whether I log in to the website or go through windows, and have them actually be on Dropbox's servers, where I pay for space, than on my own hard drive. Can someone help me see what I'm doing wrong? I run Windows 10 on my desktop, have an Android phone, and generally use Google Chrome for internet.Solved497Views0likes7CommentsMoved a shared folder out of the Dropbox folder to the Desktop on Windows - how can we put it back?
Hi there! We have a user with Dropbox on their Windows 10 machine. Somehow they've moved a shared folder out of the Dropbox folder and onto the desktop. It appears to be behaving like a Dropbox shared folder still (and it still appears in the web app and for other users) so it's not completely out of Dropbox. However the user doesn't want the folder on the desktop. How can we move this back into the Dropbox folder? Regular file moving operations don't seem to work (keeps asking for Administrator permission to move the folder). We've tried doing an uninstall\reinstall of Dropbox and this hasn't worked.611Views0likes7CommentsRemoving "PC (2)" from Dropbox
Hello, I'm trying to remove files from my dropbox to get more storage, and there is this file (perhaps a backup I accidentally set up) called PC (2). Inside it is a Documents folder. It is not the same as the Documents folder which is under This PC, as that one has a different location (C:/Users/user). The one in my dropbox has the following location:C:\Users\user\Dropbox\PC (2). So can I delete this PC (2) or will I end up deleting my actual PC?266Views0likes2CommentsI can't delete a system folder on the Dropbox app (Windows 11).
I unfortunately copy a system folder in my Dropbox. I deleted it a few moment after and it is now deleted in the Dropbox cloud but not in my computer. So I can't delete it any more in my computer and I frequently receive error messages "Synchro impossible". How to do to definitly delete all the folder in my computer?286Views0likes3CommentsFolders are in confusing locations on Windows 10.
How to untangle unwanted syncs using Windows 10 File Explorer? I use Win Explorer's filing system, and have an old Dropbox folder as well intended for a few special folders. Folders have started to be confused: some subfolders appearing under Dropbox, others where they should be: Windows Quick Access. No Dropbox app is used on the PC with Dropbox (2GB UK storage). I don't want to upgrade from my free installation and want to use Dropbox only for a few folders synced with Dropbox servers. Otherwise leave my folders as I set them! I can find no Settings to sync or unsync folders with Dropbox. Right-clicking the folder in Win Explorer brings an error message saying the drive F: is unavailable. It's a USB drive only logged in at the times I update. Have Dropbox servers spotted a chance when this happened? I didn't authorise it!2.1KViews0likes18CommentsI only seem to have read-only rights to my files on the Win11 Dropbox app
This has been mentioned before, but none of the "solutions" provided are working for me. I'm running Windows 11, and have installed the Dropbox Desktop app, both from the app store and the offline installer (uninstalled and restarted between), but I still can't open any of my Dropbox files as anything but "Read-only". I've tried going to properties and unchecking "read-only", but it just comes back when I open properties again. I tried changing properties as an administrator, also with no change. Dropbox desktop is useless if you can't read AND WRITE to the files. How do I fix this?2.7KViews0likes20CommentsDropbox wiped out my recent Documents, after reinstalling the app on my Windows computer
So a while back I installed Dropbox for my PC, I ended up deleting it (I deleted the dropbox thing under Downloads; I'm on Windows by the way), and I didn't realize it stopped syncing to my PC all the files, but I didn't really mind. Then today, I got a notification from Dropbox that it wasn't syncing anymore. I thought that maybe I should re-install it, so I did, and I did the relink option, but now all my original files under 'Documents' are missing, and replaced with some old files I uploaded to Dropbox a while back. Is there a way to get my files back?826Views0likes6CommentsCannot edit files in synced folders on my Windows machine
I cannot copy anything to the synced Dropbox folders on my PC because "it needs administrator rights". I cannot add or delete anything directly in the PC folders. I have to use the web interface to add, delete or change anything. What the heck happened? I did not change anything on my PC regarding the access rights to the Dropbox folders. It used to work perfectly... Any recommendations?Solved677Views0likes5Comments
