Try a CTRL-left click to access the legacy menu.

Hey michaelytt, sorry to hear that my recommendation hasn’t fixed the issue you’re facing & I appreciate the time you devoted to try my suggestions. As it seems that you’ve already tried working on that on your end (& just so as to expedite resolution), let me have a closer look to your account specifics on my tools. To get going with that, I’ve sent you a brief message on the email address connected to your Community profile.
Whenever you have some spare time, please have a look at your inbox for my message & I’ll make sure to promptly follow-up with you asap. Thanks again & I’ll be awaiting your next reply!

Dear Jane,
Thank you for your reply. Poking around I saw something that said in order to see the menu you have to have permission from the administrator. I am the administrator, so apparently I have to somehow give myself permission to see the menu.

Thanks for pinging me back here michaelytt! It looks like you’re referring to the admin privileges required to run Dropbox with full functionality on your computer, which is different than the role assigned if you’re working on a team account. While I’ve already sent you a brief message back regarding your initial inquiry, I’d happily explore whether installing our application with admin rights does the trick for you to get to the Preferences menu.
Once you get back in touch with me, we can discuss it in more detail Michael!

Hi Jane,
can you send me the info too? my windows 10 doesnt allow it either.
thanks
- Jane6 years agoDropbox StaffHey daintria, thanks for the nudge; kindly note that I’m not sure how Michael managed to resolve that, as running the application with admin privileges wasn’t the solution for him.Nonetheless, I’m wondering whether the issue lies elsewhere in what you're describing us. Have you by any chance tried launching the application through the Start menu on your pc? Additionally, have you tried Rich’s tip by any chance to see if this does the trick for you? Do you see the Dropbox icon at all? Please let me know of any other detail &/or troubleshooting steps you've followed in your next post if possible!

I was never able to run DropBox as an administrator. Finally, with help on the phone, I deleted everything, all the folders, uninstalled DropBox and installed it again and let all the folders load from the cloud. I then had multiple sets of files in a couple of locations but I gradually deleted them until only one remained.

Hi Jane,
I am having the same issue. It used to work fine, but a few weeks, maybe a few months ago either left or right clicking the icon in the tray does nothing. I reinstalled and updated with no luck.
The CRTL click trick works fine and is a work around, but not the way it is supposed to be. Been using Dropbox for years with no problem and works fine on my Windows 10 laptop on the same account. A screen shot won't help as there is nothing there to screen shot, which is what the issue is. The icon works fine as far as synch indicator.

Hey there SandySD,
Could you please let me know the version of the desktop app that you have installed on the device having this issues? If it's showing xx.3.xxx then you're currently on a beta version of the app and I'd recommend firstly to downgrade to the latest stable version to see if that does the trick.
You'll need to turn off the option "Early releases" at the bottom of your account settings page here, then redownload and install the latest stable version.
Let me know what you find - thanks!
