How can I sync files outside of Dropbox folder to Dropbox?
Hi,
I have a large number of files in D:\Code folder. I want to sync these files to Dropbox.
- I don't want to create a duplicate of D:\Code in C:\3094098\Dropbox and try to keep them synced. These files consume 100s of GBs, and I don't have space to keep two copies of these files. I also don't want to have to keep the two folders in sync.
- Following the tip in, httpx://superuser.com/a/465552 I created a directory junction, a directory symbolic link, and also a hard link to D:\Code inside of C:\3094098\Dropbox, but Dropbox is not picking the files up as changes to be synced to the cloud. (replace "httpx" with "https" above)
Is there a solution for this?
Thanks!
Drew
Hey a35082348ip2340ark - thanks for using Dropbox and welcome to the Community!
I'm afraid it's not possible to sync files outside of your Dropbox folder, using the Dropbox desktop app in a supported way at least.
You could try uploading it through the website instead and/or consider using the selective sync feature or the option to have them as online-only.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks. That is unfortunate. My D:\Code folder contains computer code that I work on daily, and I would take comfort in having it backed up/synced to Dropbox and in being able (as a Dropbox Plus account holder) to revert/recover a previous version of the file within 30 days!
Oh well.
