system tray icon won't open
Hi I'm having problems with the DropBox system tray icon in the notifications area not opening when you single-click/double-click, or right-click. All I see is a red symbol with a number in it, ind...

Hi, everyone who has helped me this past week with my Dropbox tray icon issue. Nancy Jay, I have some great news! As you know, I had trouble with the Dropbox system tray icon not wanting to open when I clicked it.
Well, I also had trouble with my newest Windows build not showing up in Windows Update. When I clicked would click on the Insider Program tab, it would tell me there was a new build available to download, but Windows Update wouldn’t show it, and it also stopped showing what channel options I had available (Dev, Beta, Release).
So, I did some digging and searching and found out that there was a bug that prevented people from switching to the channel they preferred. There’s a Command Prompt fix to see those channels again under the Insider Program tab.

I went ahead and tried this, and lo and behold, it worked! I rebooted my system after entering the prompt information and went back into the Windows Update settings, and there were the channels, BUT there was the newest build update. I installed it and rebooted it again.
I clicked on the Dropbox system tray icon again, and the pop-up popped up and showed the familiar options and files and such!
Fixing the issue with the Insider Program channels and updating to the latest Windows 11 build fixed the stuck Dropbox problem!!!
Please share this information!!!

Hi Cajun12345, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
If you Ctrl-click the icon, does it come up with the context menu to access Preferences and other options?
This will help me to assist further!

Hi Jay!
Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, it didn't work. It's still got a red message badge on it. I can open the DropBox desktop app icon and my DropBox folders when I go into File Explorer. (Windows 11 Home). Between the Community and Support, we'll figure this out! 🙂
Thanks
Jerry

Hi Nancy!
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm currently working with Maddison from DropBox Advanced support, and she asked me to submit a Capture screen recording. I also submitted a screenshot. I tried to do a screen recording and camera, but my PC webcam couldn't zoom in on that spot. That would have been the best thing to do. Basically, it won't open when I click. It used to pop up about a week or so ago. Then, from what I'm seeing, a Windows update messed that up. But, I looked that up and the new update that's installing (not on mine yet), mentions apps that won't open when clicked in the system tray.
Thanks
Jerry
