The desktop app crashes on my MacBook Pro running Mac OS 15.3
I have a continuing problem on a MacBook Pro running the latest 15.3 Sonoma with Dropbox Plus. Periodically I will look for the Dropbox icon in my menu bar and it will not be there, and Activity Monitor says it is not running either. I'll start the Dropbox app again, and it will be visible in the menu bar until the next time it isn't. Seems to be random time lengths. Thoughts?

This is a personal machine. I do have other items running in the background, but I have no idea which could interfere with Dropbox...

Hey DHK, let me jump in here!
Can you clarify the version of the Dropbox app that you're using on your end? You should be able to locate this by hovering your mouse over the little Dropbox icon, on your menu bar, next to your WiFi.
Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app ever since you noticed this?

I tried deleting/re-installing in the past and it came back. However, I just deleted the app and all its dependencies and downloaded and installed v. 217.4.4417. I'll let you know if it happens again.

this has been happening to be for nearly a year as well - it is SO annoying because i work across two computers and i frequently find that my files are not synced across devices because of it. I'm actually pretty close to moving to another online cloud storage since no one in Dropbox was able to tell me why this was happening or how to fix it. i will be very interested to see whether you identify a cause.

Hi there nraihani - sorry to hear about this.
It sounds like you've already contacted our support team about this. If that's right, could you let us know your ticket ID so that we can look it up in our system?
Otherwise, please let us know your computer's exact OS version and the version of the Dropbox desktop app installed there as well.
Any additional information or screenshots are more than welcome!

Hi Hannah, yes I have reached out to support but they could not help me understand why it was happening. It seems like this is a more pervasive issue with people using Mac M2 and above machines. I have this problem on my new imac (M3) and new Macbook Pro (I think is M2) but have never had it on my older machines (that I still use). Someone in this thread asked me to reply with the ticket number of my previous correspondence with dropbox support, which i did, but then i didn't hear anything back after that. As this seems to be a problem that many mac users are experiencing (also in my workplace, as i have asked people) i wonder if it warrants looking into in a more systematic manner? Thanks for your support.

As another followup I have Dropbox running on an iMac M-3, iMac M-1, 2 Intel MacBooks, and only on this silicon MacBook M-2 do I have a problem...

I hate to ask, but I clicked on your support link and can't see an appropriate option for support: "Billing & Subscriptions", "Your Account", "Sharing with others", "Dropbox Core", "Dropbox Dash", "Dropbox Capture", "Dropbox Replay", or 'Privacy"...

I have been experiencing this over the past month. Dropbox is quietly crashing/quitting/closing. I use Dropbox desktop all day long. I will go to drag files into my folder, and then expect to get the Green Check Mark indicating it is uploaded...and all of those icons are missing. I then look up to the menu bar and the dropbox icon is missing. So I go to my dock, and re-launch dropbox...wait for things to sync-up and then everything is fine until it happens again. I was thinking I have some weird Keyboard Maestro keystroke that is accidentally killing dropbox. I have no idea what is causing this.
I am on a MacStudio M2 Ultra running Sequoia 15.3.1 and Dropbox Ver. 218.4.4348

I just finished an 18 hour work day...and DropBox did not crash once today!
I noticed on the menu bar, after hovering over the DropBox icon that the software version changed. Mine is now at Ver 219.4.4463
When I posted in this forum 3 days ago, it was at Ver. 218.4.4348.Fingers crossed that perhaps the new version that got pushed out has remedied this issue?
