It's been a while since I've used Dropbox and I'm trying to figure out if my 'old' account is still active? I've tried logging in using my previous credentials, however they don't seem to work and Dropbox appears to direct me to sign up like a new subscriber.

If it's been more than a year since you last accessed the mentioned Dropbox account, it's most likely deleted due to inactivity now and this is why you're able to sign up again using the same email address.
