Which plan is right for my needs?
I have had a Basic plan for many years, I’ve used it to share files between devices and with other people, but now the sharing ability has been restricted. I understand the business need to generate revenue from the services offered, and I am looking for the right service for me.
What I want is the ability to: (1) continue sharing files between devices; (2) share files with other people like I could previously, including sharing files with a publicly accessible link; (3) back up files from one or more devices, without the requirement to sync the entire archive to any one device; (4) explore files remotely by folder and individual file, rather than download as a collection (e.g. ZIP) as required by services like iCloud; (5) ideally map the archive to a drive or folder in Windows for archive management using file comparison tools (or an integrated file comparison tool at least as capable as BeyondCompare); (6) back up the archive to a local hard drive for extra security; (7) have >1TB of archive capacity; (8) be able to use this for personal use and business use as an individual sole trader, not a large company with a big IT budget.
I know I need to pay for this level of service, and with the archive and backup facilities I can justify a business expense. But I need a competitive price, without paying for lots of extras I simply don’t need.
Is Dropbox the right solution for me? Does the Plus plan meet all the above? Which is the lowest cost solution which does? If Dropbox isn’t the right choice for me, what should I be looking at instead?

Hey msjbeard, welcome to the Dropbox Community.
To be honest, when it comes to the usability of the Dropbox platforms, (website, desktop app, mobile app) they all work the same way, no matter which plan you're on.
Surely with larger plans, you'd have some more features available, but the core still remains the same in regards to backups, sharing and syncing files.
You can use this page to compare our plans and their available features and of course contact our Sales team for further info.
Also, I'll leave this thread open so other users can reply with their own experiences when it comes to using Dropbox with third party apps and if you have other questions, of course, don't hesitate to ask.
Cheers!

Thanks Hannah. What I really need to know, before I sign up to pay, is whether Dropbox will deliver what I want, which I was quite careful to specify. Dropbox don’t seem to want to answer that, which is a bit of a concern for me.

Hi
Basically what you want to do isn't possible - so as Hannah said Dropbox will work as it is working for you now but with more space and occasionally other things such as signatures if you choose that plan. Paying for a subscription will not give you access to things like attaching to a network drive (points 5 or 6).
All plans will give you at least 2TB of space. Sharing works as it does on free but with more capacity to share
The other thing is that Dropbox itself isn't a backup tool. You can use Dropbox Backup which is a separate tool BUT it doesn't do what you said - it does backup of certain folders only which you can look at online BUT you cannot restore/edit/upload in to those... they are almost 'dumb' backups.
