If you're on Dropbox for macOS on File Provider, then you can no longer move the Dropbox folder to a new location. One of Apple's requirements for the File Provider API is that the cloud storage providers store their folders within the ~/Library/CloudStorage folder.

Hey Confused with Dropping, even if you install a previous version of the app, as long as you're connected to the internet, the app will keep updating.
There is a way to move your Dropbox folder to another location, however, that would mean that you'll no longer use the File Provider version of the Dropbox app.

- How come on my other laptop I am still able to have the Dropbox folder on my desktop? Both laptops are exactly the same MacBook Air. The one on my desktop is not the file provider version of Dropbox. It is the older version which I didn’t update. How do I get this older version of Dropbox. I don’t want the new file version.
