No option for "make online only" when I right click my files

I have a professional DropBox account and I'm working on a Mac, OS 12.5.

I have several files that are sync'd locally that I would like to move off my hard drive and make online only. When I right-click on the folders, however, I'm not getting the option from the drop-down menu to make the files online only. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Could you check if you've enabled the Dropbox extension in Finder in the Mac OS settings?

    Hi

As far as I remember, I could turn on 'online only' both for folders and for single documents, photos and soundbites by 'right-clicking' on a file or a folder. Now there is no option for 'online only' on my pc (microsoft) or in dropbox online when I 'right-click'. And I've looked through different places but no smart sync or online only. Where did I go wrong - or have you altered how to access that feature? Anja

Hey tartaronne, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Can you please check the sync status and version of the Dropbox app?

You can hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray for this info.

Also, are you missing other Dropbox right-click options or just the "make online-only" one?

        Hi again

Thank you for the answer, but it didn't work. Hovering made no difference, nothing showed up. I've searched for 'system tray' and got some suggestions in Danish. Somehow I reached a box  in which Dropbox could search for dropbox files on my harddisk, and then I could mark them and tick a box saying 'only online'. I do not think I can find that again. So, I still do not know how to 'order' files to 'be only online' or view my system box. I think my dropbox version is quite old. How can I update? Do I have to download dropbox again? 🙂

Had issue today where the online only option disappeared and files would not open through the finder window. I had to delete the app and reinstall (i also deleted the `library files associated with the app as well, caches preferences etc.) the app all together and the option came back up.

In Mac Catalina 10.15.7 with Drop Box plus, I get no option to make online only. I am trying to free up hard drive space by making the files save online only. This was promised before I bought account. If this is not solved, I will close drop box account.

Right click on folders in dropbox after sign in

Hey dropsyfied, thanks for the screenshots, I appreciate them!

What is the version that you have installed, and syncing status on your device, while we speak?

Hey lauram73, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Could you please let us know the app's status as shown in your menu bar at the moment?

If you could also send us a screenshot of the options you're getting, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks!

      Hi Walter,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

Dropbox is there in my menu bar. Everything seems to be running and syncing properly.

Here is a screen shot of my right-click menu. When I click on a folder in my finder. No option to make it online only.

      Thanks for your help!

Hey lauram73, thanks for the screenshots!

What happens when you try to access the folder shown on the screenshot? If you right click in a file or folder in there, are you able to find the options?

Also, I would like for you to locate your Dropbox icon. It would be on the menu, next to your WiFi and date and time icon. Once you do this, could you hover your mouse there and let me know what the status and version of the app?
