Recover Deleted Account
Is there anyway to recover an account that has been deleted?
- Jonas Ö.1New member | Level 1
It was NOT obvious that I would lose controll of my account when I was invited to dropbox buisness. I assumed that it would be the same thing as when someone invite me to shares a folder in Dropbox basic, that I would have access to a shared folder.
That should be a big warning that demonstrates that I now abandon all control over my account! My private account! So stupid of DROPBOX to do like this!
Do not understand why they have built up in this way, it is illogical that someone else to take over control of my private account!
I have been in contact with dropbox support and they say that there is a possibility to recover the deleted account and files. However not got it restored yet, but I'm will nag on until they do it!

DANGER! DO NOT JOIN ANOTHER COMPANY'S TEAM!
Recently all warnings have disappeared from the onboarding process - today my wife's account was deleted when she was asked to join the team dropbox from another company - she has lost all her drop box files and her own account was deleted with no warnings at all! Please reinstate the warnings that all your own business files will be deleted if you join another company's team!

I was prompted by dropbox that my work account wasn't used in two years (which was true). I decided to follow the link through my work email to delete the account. What happened was it deleted my personal account. I definitely did not want my personal account deleted, and I have no explanation how the two accounts were linked other than I may have used my personal email address as a backup on my work account (and vice versa; my work email as a backup on my personal account). I use my personal account regularly (a couple times a week) and if the two emails were linked like this, I would assume they wouldn't have sent me this inactive email in the first place. I'm very upset right now and looking for any guidance to recover my personal account.

When I made the account at work it was pretty obvious I was making a work or business account. That's about it from the "pretty obvious" standpoint.
When I made my account at home I never once converted it to a "business" through a "business invite". I don't even know what that would look like if I wanted to. I may have used my work email as a BACKUP to my primary. That is in no way a "pretty obvious" way of making it a business account or having any desire to link the two accounts together.

It may be possible for the other Company's admin to re-instate our account - but then I suspect that this other company, who is both a client and a competitor (depending on the project) will have access to all our IP, some of our financial records, some of our private photos and most of our client's files, which obviously is not acceptable and in breach of every confidentiality agreement we have ever signed. I think all we can do is back up the local copy of our files (if they have not self deleted in a sync) and start a new account (which we will be reticent to use now for any sensitive information). We will then need to get our lawyers to make it clear to the other company that they are not to re-instate this account under any circumstances.
PLEASE ADD CLEARER WARNINGS FOR THIS ISSUE! (for when people are joining a third party's team dropbox)

I think Dropbox needs a visit from Federal Trade Commission over this issue. How is God's green Earth can I have a paid account that gets cancelled by ONE VERY UNCLEAR CLICK OF A BUTTON to join a team folder????? Is this a scam, Dropbox???? Do you REALLY care about your customers???? Wedding pictures, private data, years of portfolio work and writing ... all lost?????? And cancelling my Pro account???????? Come on, Dropbox. You can do far better than this.

Actually, NO. I was NOT REPEATEDLY warned. Do you work for Dropbox?

Same issue here. The issue is apparently deaf to the resident "Super User's" ears. I am an intelligent person. The Dropbox process is confusing and frankly the wording is misrepresenting what actually takes place.
I lost control of my confidential files. The "admin" deleted my account and now suppport is in the process of restoring my account to its original state.
We have been warning all users not to use Dropbox until this "feature" is eliminated due to phishing risks. I would recommend transferring your files to a different service in the meanwhile.
This is a known IT security risk.

I faced the same issue today.
This is really bad. whats the use of dropbox being cloud storage when they want to delete our accounts. The mail of reminder was sent but being out of country for few months I wasnt able to open my dropbox.
And the account I am unable to recover.
Alert should have been given to mobile numbers for deletion of accounts. THis is realllllllllllllllllllyyy bad part of dropbox. I would now never use dropbox. THe worst of it. There are many other cloud storages. I better delete all my files and accounts from this worst platform,
