Dropbox Backup
15 TopicsExternal Hard Drive compatibility with Dropbox Backup
I am interested in upgrading my plan to the 2TB plan because I need to backup an external hard drive (WD-My Book for Mac) with approximately 600GB of old iPhoto files on it. I cannot upgrade until I know that Dropbox Backup can access and backup this drive. When I go to the Dropbox Backup section of the app, it only gives my Mac hard drive as an option even though the external hard drive is connected and viewable/accessible in Finder. The FAQ section of Dropbox support says that it supports only certain types of external hard drives but I don't know what those drive types mean nor can I tell whether my external drive is one of those types. I contacted Dropbox sales support and they can answer my question and they can't get me any tech support (makes me question whether I want to stick with Dropbox anyway but that's another issue altogether). If I can't backup this drive through Dropbox Backup then I am not going to upgrade. My free plan is enough for what I need otherwise. Can anyone help me figure out whether Dropbox Backup can back up my external drive and help me see it on the Dropbox Backup screen in the app?2.7KViews1like8CommentsCouldn't start trial due to "technical error", after trying to claim Seagate promotion
Hello, I have recently bought a seagate external storage that included a 180 day Dropbox Backup Plan. However, whenever I try to follow the steps to start the trial to upgrade my account, after putting all of my payment method information, I get immediately redirected to the dropbox home page with a red message at the top of saying "Couldn't start trial due to technical error". I've tried doing it on different browsers, looked online for help but cannot find anything, and since technically my account is still on a "basic plan", there is no way for me to contact support. If I could get any help it would be greatly appreciated, Thank You1.8KViews0likes21CommentsHow can I backup my computer with Dropbox instead of iCloud?
Hi I have just purchased DROPBOX PLUS with the intention of backing up my MAC but when I go through the set up I get a message saying that I should "stop iCloud back up first" but when I look at turning iCloud backup off it says that turning this off will remove all the files from the MAC so I am confused and scared. Is there any guidance on how to move from iCloud back up to Dropbox back up for people like me? Many thanks Steve572Views0likes3CommentsWhere is the Backup plan?
Does this exist only for a select audience now? I've searched on the website and cant find anything other than a page about it, but no links to actually subscribe to that option. I guess it's still in the works? I currently have dropbox plus and am using backup, but surprised to see that my backups are counting against my overall dropbox space (eating up over half of total 3tb of space, while my dropbox files are only 30gb or so)?722Views0likes1CommentHow can I upgrade without installing the app?
I recently cancelled my Dropbox plan that gave me 2T of storage. I used DB to back up my mac laptop as well as house some external folders. But I hated it. I desperately needed to get my laptop folder OFF Dropbox and disconnect from the platform as a back up. It took me 6 long weeks to disentangle my files I still wanted to use Dropbox to house certain folders and files though - just not those on my machine. So I went to the free plan. Now I have an alert from DB saying that I am out of storage with the free 2GB plan. I am happy to buy more storage space but I don't want to entangle my machine in the Dropbox Synching Universe again. I need to stay free from that. So how can I buy more storage yet stay free from linking my machine?Solved907Views0likes1CommentDropBox backup plan, but I want to select multiple drives.
I am interested in buying the backup 2Tb subscription for my desktop which has two hard drives in it. It says to just select the drive you want to back up. Do all the files have to be on one drive and not spread across multiple hard drives?Solved6.2KViews0likes9CommentsHow long are files stored after subscription has stopped?
