484 TopicsPaper by Dropbox to be discontinued?
I'm seeing a number of posts across social media speculating that Dropbox Paper is to be discontinued. As there has been no Paper by Dropbox app update for 2+ years (since Version 262.2), and because of general user discontent regarding the infamous 2020 update, this rumour seems to be gathering momentum. Could somebody confirm what we should expect (and when) before I start scouting for alternative platforms? Many thanks!10Views0likes1CommentGive us the option to export all Dropbox Paper docs at once
Sadly, the last update to Dropbox Paper ended the "export all at once" feature. This means that all work done only ever exists on Dropbox's servers and there is no backup on my local computer. As long as I could export all at once, I could do weekly backups in case things go awry. This is not possible anymore in the new version. This means I will not be able to use the Paper feature anymore as I cannot accept unsecured work and exporting paper documents one by one for Backup is not practicable. Please bring "export all at once" back to Dropbox Paper.74Views3likes4CommentsThoughts on the new release of Dropbox Paper
This idea was already suggested many years ago and closed for inactivity. The old Dropbox Paper was easy to use, simple and was "what you see is what you get". The new Dropbox Paper introduces lots of new concepts that don't necessarily align I think with how many people have used Dropbox Paper in the past. It could just be me, but seems unlikely. Paper was a useful tool for me to organize my thoughts, write notes, journal ideas, etc... I don't usually like tools in general that try to push me to organize my life into someone else's perspective of how one should operate. I realize that other users may like that, I don't. I don't want "to-dos", "alerts", "notifications", "channels", etc... I like the "sharing" capability, and perhaps some very basic "collaboration", but to turn Dropbox Paper into a complete "Team" solution for ideating is way way beyond what I want to use it for, and I feel a little like the new version of Paper is intended to force users into a way of journaling and writing that maybe isn't what or how they are comfortable operating. Maybe these features could be useful, but on an as-needed basis, without taking away the simplicity that existed prior. It would be great if we could just have something that gives us the old Paper capabilities, with the advantage of treating a "Paper" document just like a dropbox document (which is what I thought the new implementation was all about and I was excited for). Here's the new Dropbox Paper UI. How is this intuitive? "Sections" on the left. "Create new doc" on the main page. Shouldn't I be navigating documents on the left, and each document have sections? Where am I right now? Where are all my paper documents? How do I get to them? What is a section? When I click on "My first section", nothing happens, it doesn't go anywhere. "Brainstorm: Add a topic". What's a topic? I don't brainstorm in Dropbox paper, why is that important? How would you then browse topics? Or is topics part of brainstorming? Is that a document or a "thing" thing in the new Paper application. Do the icons mean each thing on the left is a type of thing, or is it just a clever emoji you can prefix your titles with. What is "Starred" for? If I have 1000 paper documents, why am I starring them like that? Or should it just be maybe "Recent documents". Is "Starred" going to be a new virtual directory tree or a list of starred documents. I feel like it's a bit of a mess of ideas and concepts and terminology. Besides "Create new doc", nothing else makes sense to me. Maybe I am the wrong user. Maybe it was never intended to be used as a simple repository of notes, journals, etc... What's the grand old vision for Paper? Where is it heading and trying to take us as users? I really don't know how to suggest a better idea without a better understanding of what Dropbox Paper is meant to accomplish for users going forward. Is it for the enterprise going forward? Who is Dropbox Paper trying to compete with, because I thought it was pretty unique before in its simplicity. I noticed there's a slack integration? Is the product management group for the application taking their cues from businesses, or are this going to also still be for regular retail-ish consumers. Maybe that can be explained clearly. And then I can decide if it's for me or not, but as-is, I'm not sure how this is going to work for me.91Views0likes4CommentsMissing folders and Paper docs after migration
For many years I have used Dropbox paper. Made hundreds of folders and papers. Now I have only 10 or so in my migrated section. First of all I had no idea something was about to happen. Maybe I missed mails? I have used paper recently without an issue or a notice that I should do something really quick! Now I have no Idea where to find my files. I have a folder 'Gemigreerde paper documenten' (Dutch) and there is not even 1% of my files. We are working in a team and maybe a college did the migration and I can't see them now? I find this update very disturbing! So dropbox, how can I get them back? Where are they? Thanks!31Views0likes1CommentCannot see shared Dropbox paper documents on Dropbox Paper webpage
Dear Community, Some other guys shared some Dropbox Paper folders with me. I could enter the folder and edit the Paper files through 'notifications' on the upper right of the Dropbox webpage. However, if I go to my Dropbox Paper webpage, I could not see any of the shared Paper files. This seems to happen for my account because when I change a computer or change a browser, I still cannot see the files. But for the other people sharing the folders, they could see the files on their webpage and directly enter it. This is a bit of a problem because if I want to find a file that was shared to me a long time ago, it is difficult to find it through 'notifications', so I wonder how could I fix this problem. Many thanks!!!48Views0likes9CommentsTitle shortcuts the Paper mobile phone app
Title shortcuts the Paper mobile phone app as in the webb applciation. This would allow for swiftly taping in information under a certain title on the go for later review. The shortcut list to titles would as deafult be hidden so it dosent take up space while writing/ reviewing the document. // PhilArch10Views0likes1Comment"Migrated Paper Docs" folders are all empty
Looks like Dropbox ran their migration of paper.dropbox.com to their "Migrated Paper Docs" folder on my dropbox account. But when I go to the "Migrated Paper Docs" folder they created in my dropbox account, the folders I had in Paper seem to have been migrated, but they are all empty! And when I go to "paper.dropbox.com", it's empty with nothing. I had LOTS of document that I've stored for years here, did Dropbox just lose all my files? These are critical documents, what's going on?Solved68Views1like4CommentsHow to deal with new Dropbox Paper files after migration and locate them?
I am so confused right now. Prior to the upgrade, I had created folders within Dropbox paper so all of my documents are in those folders. I can see those folders within the "Migrated Paper Docs" folder in Dropbox. But when I open the Paper website or the app on my phone, I can't see any of those folders. In theory, I can search for any document that's in those folders, but I want to be able to browse through the folders. I also tried moving the folders from the Migrated folder into the "Paper Docs" folder but nothing happened and I still couldn't see or browse through those folders. On the Paper website, one can now create 'Sections' and move docs into Sections but I have no idea what the use of that is because after creating one, I can't see them within the App. I have no idea what I am supposed to do now to organize this mess. This upgrade should have been seamless to users.196Views1like8CommentsPaper is empty and "Migrated Paper Docs" folders are empty
Hi dear team. Thank you in advance for your time. This is an urgent call 🙏 as all my Paper documents are lost right now. I am a long time active user of Dropbox and Paper. I use both weekly since many years. I noticed this "Migrated Paper Docs" suddenly showed up some days ago in my laptop which contained empty folders inside, so I deleted it from my computer. Then, today I just realized that Paper is empty, zero files inside my Paper account, so I wonder if "Migrated Paper Docs" folder is now connected to Paper?... anyways, I restored the Migrated Paper Docs folder from Dropbox but it is still empty. Could you help me recover the 100% of my Paper files? I had all sort of VERY important information 🙏33Views0likes3Comments
