Dropbox Vault
11 TopicsHow secure is the Vault?
The new Vault feature is useful, but I can't see any information about how secure it is, and what if any encryption is used on the files stored in there? Is this a password protected folder? How hard is it to get the data inside if you don't have the PIN? I'm thinking of password protected folders on Windows which aren't really secure if you have access to the hard drive!Solved12KViews2likes13CommentsDropbox "folder" on computer, how does it work?
Not sure about the category. I have files in many folders on my computer. I want to use Dropbox as a Cloud, for storage only, occasionally for sending a video file to someone (which I've done). The free service is limiting in amount of files I can upload, so I'm thinking of purchasing a 2 or 3 TB account. 1) As you know, when I drag files from a folder onto the website, they also appear in a Dropbox folder on my computer. It LOOKS LIKE the files were copied to this folder. I need to know if this Dropbox folder is virtual, and that the files (mostly videos) are NOT taking up space on my computer/external hard drive. Since I want to use Dropbox AS a backup, I don't want it to backup files onto my computer. 2) Is it possible to copy entire FOLDERS as a folder onto Dropbox? And maybe create folders on Dropbox? 3) What is the Dropbox Vault? Does it apply to a single user? Replies much appreciated, thanks.Solved6KViews1like8CommentsHide Unused Dropbox Features in my File Browser / Finder

Hello dear Dropbox Community, I need your help. Today I have a vacation. But the entire mood has been ruined since the early morning. Dropbox is better than five shots of coffee. Yesterday, I decided to sync my MacBook's Photos library, which is more than 70GB in size, to Dropbox Vault before heading out on a trip for safety reasons. I just copied them in the Dropbox folder on my Mac. I expected everything to be safely uploaded in the morning. However, this morning, Vault showed an empty file, and there’s a 16GB file outside the Vault that named view-only conflicts. Later Vault synced a folder of 2Gb. But even all together, it is not 70Gb of my memories. More than that, I see the original Photos folder in the pictures folder has been removed These photos mean a lot to me — over a decade of memories. Can you help me find out what happened and how to return my photos? Thank you a lot!1.6KViews0likes12CommentsHow does Dropbox vault work internally?
I just started using Dropbox vault on Windows and I found that every time I open the vault, it seems that Dropbox downloads all files in the vault from the server to my computer. When I close the vault, it uploads all files to the Dropbox server. Is this true? If so, should I put large files in the vault? It could use a lot of bandwidth if so. I also want to know how the vault protects my files. Are my vault files encrypted on Dropbox server, or on the wire? When does the decrypt happen? Thanks.Solved1.3KViews0likes1CommentHow to sync content from Vault on my device to web?
