I'm trying to use Dropbox in a "Windows 11 Pro" virtual machine (under Parallels) on Macbook M1 (Apple silicon). When I attempt to install, I get an error message "Couldn't start Dropbox. Your device is not compatible with this version of the Dropbox app." It states that I could use Windows 11 in S mode, but I can't be restricted to S mode. I installed Dropbox a month ago on the Mac (Ventura) side, and it installed (although it's awkward). I write some of my own apps (C# .Net) and need to have stable locations for many Dropbox files. I just installed the newest version of MacOS Dropbox but it conceals the drive locations of files in a way that wrecks the programmatic access from the Windows side. I therefore uninstalled Dropbox from the Mac side am now trying to install it on the Windows side. I've used Dropbox happily for over a decade, but this has me stumped. Any help is most welcome. Suddenly Dropbox (since couple of versions - my latest is 195.4.4995) stopped to login automatically on system startup. Greyed out icon is available in system tray but Dropbox cannot login. I need manually close it and run it again to start. I uninstalled it and installed fresh version but the output is the same... Hi, Dropbox app used to load at startup and work smoothly on my Mac but since a few weeks Dropbox can’t load at startup, giving the following error dialog: "Dropbox cannot start / Dropbox ran into a connection issue" I click OK and get another error dialog: "Couldn't start Dropbox. This may be a temporary error. Please restart Dropbox. For more information, click the help button.” so I get the error log (see below) and click OK. After these steps I’m always able to open Dropbox app from the Applications folder and everything works fine. So, my issue is only at startup time, when some sort of "connection issue” happens. Please be aware that I’ve already done an advanced re-install (twice!) and all the necessary Accessibility/Full Disk Access/Files and Folders settings are ok. Could you help me? currently on Fedora 38, using dropbox installed from Fedora 38 RPM at https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora/38/x86_64/ Observed behavior: Dropbox hangs on "starting"' Theory: there is something in my Dropbox folder that is hanging Dropbox. Tried: Dropbox hangs on "starting". Originally in Manjaro, around May 1, it began to hang when started. Tried fresh reinstall of Dropbox, then fresh reinstall of Manjaro. Once I installed Dropbox on a fresh system, it pulled in all the files without a problem, but when I rebooted, I got the "starting" message again. I thought it might be the maxhandles parameter so set that, but no change. Rolled back to a fresh install from backup to pre-install state, including config files and no Dropbox folder that I installed and had working until reboot. That still hung on "starting...." Deleted Dropbox folder, config, and app, from my home folder as per https://help.dropbox.com/installs/uninstall-dropbox, Installed Fedora 38 and Fedora 38 dropbox version from https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora/38/x86_64/, and once I followed the instructions to install topicon to get an appindicator, I was able to set selective sync so it would not download everything, but it froze on starting. Reboot led to same result. * full remove of dropbox, including Dropbox folder, install from fedora nautilus dropbox rpm at * install rpm through software gui, it updates itself and starts up, starts syncing everything. no app indicator shows., so no way to get to prefs for selective sync. * reboot. Dropbox starts automatically, app indicator shows, but stuck on starting again.Solved4.3KViews0likes21CommentsDropbox no longer syncs automatically on my Windows 7 computers
Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong board. This problem just started today. I have had a free dropbox account for a number of years. I'm very happy with dropbox. However, starting yesterday dropbox no longer connects up automatically to update changes to my stored files. My dropbox is installed on a Windows 7 machine. I have the same problem on a second W7 machine. One machine is at my home, the other is at work. separate networks, separate connectivity, both machines have worked perfectly with dropbox for 10+ years. I'm thinking maybe dropbox no longer suppports W7? Does anyone have a suggestion where to start in resolving this problem? Thanks!!Solved3.9KViews1like26CommentsHow to restore deleted files with Dropbox
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably accidentally deleted files at some point since you opened your Dropbox account (I do this way more than I care to admit). The most notable time was when I accidentally deleted my entire thesis, instead of of some notes I’d taken. Luckily, with Dropbox, you have at least 30 days to restore these files, and it’s really simple. Here’s how to do it. Login to dropbox.com Click on Deleted files from the left-hand side bar Select all of the files you would like to restore Click Restore Files will now be moved back to their previous location That’s it; it really is that simple! But remember, these files won’t stay in the Deleted files section forever, so if you do find yourself needing to Restore files don’t delay!
