26 Topicssecurity concern: my full name appears on public folder links!
I recently shared a video from my public Dropbox folder - I copy/pasted a link to the video. When I shared the video w a friend, they pointed out that my full name shows up on the video link!! That's very concerning seeing that it's in the public folder which I would expect the Dropbox team to take appropriate precautions for maintaining my privacy - especially if I shared a file from my public folder. Interestingly that doesn't come up when I check on my laptop. But I just checked the link on my phone, and I see my full name! See attach a screenshot below.. (I blocked out my last name and the file name, but you can see my name shows up in the circled area) Does anyone know to remove my full name when sharing a link like this through my public Dropbox folder?5.3KViews2likes3CommentsDeleted folder and files still accessible via shared link
I shared a folder of files a few days ago. Today I deleted the folder and the underlying files. However, the link still works, the files still show up in the download page, and files are still able to be downloaded. To be clear, the folder and files do not exist locally on disk nor on the original dropbox.com location. I physically deleted them. So they should not be accessible via the shared linked, yet they are. Tried multiple browsers, they're still visible and downloadable.1.5KViews1like8CommentsEmail Address Privacy Toggle Switch for Shared Folders for Users That Only Have the Ability to View
When you "share a folder" all users of that folder can see all of the other users email addresses. This is privacy issue. If I give 500 people the ability to "view" but not "edit" the folder, I don't want all these people to see the other people's email addresses. There is no reason for them to see them. There is no collaboration in the folder. I am just sharing it. So, to uphold someone's privacy the 500 other people that they don't know should not have the ability see other people's email addresses. There is no Dropbox plan, no option to hide email addresses among those that can only "view" the folder. This is a major privacy issue. Ideally, a simple switch should be put on the owner's dashboard (the person that is sharing the folder) to hide all email addresses so each person in the folder doesn't have the ability to see all the other peoples email addresses. Doesn't seem logical that this "switch" isn't already a feature due to privacy issues.1.9KViews1like6CommentsHow secure is Dropbox when it comes to sharing sensitive information?
I'm just wondering how secure and safe is drop box for sharing sensitive information. Using a gmail or other email account to send a file through drop box for example. Is there a way or need when you send a file to add a passcode requirement to the recipient? Also is drop box more secure to share through than that google drive? Thanks in Advance.Solved3KViews1like2Comments
