Yesterday I uploaded a movie file to Dropbox for some friends to download. Immediately after, I decided to check from a browser that wasn't logged in, to see what it would look like for them if they didn't have a Dropbox account. I was shocked to discover, under “Activity”: “Patricia Johnson downloaded this file” and “Anthony Abate viewed this file” (neither name recognised by me): So, then I logged in to investigate, but only saw “Traffic and insights: See who’s visiting... Upgrade to Dropbox Professional to start tracking.”: Surely this isn’t a scare tactic to get me to upgrade to a paid account, is it??Solved33KViews1like12CommentsPdf viewer in web browser
Hi: I used to be able to view pdf files in Chrome's native pdf viewer. Suddenly, I am no longer able to view files through Chrome's viewer, but only through what looks to be some new dropbox proprietary viewer. I'd like to be able to go back to the Chrome viewer, as the dropbox viewer has cut pdf functionality significantly. How can I go back to viewing my pdf files on Chrome's native pdf viewer? Thank you.Solved32KViews1like34CommentsPdf not opening in Adobe when Using Dropbox online

Hi, Recently, I sent a shared link of one pdf file of mine to someone. When I created this shared link, I have disabled the download permission for this file. However, the guy told me that he has found out a way to hack the link and been able to download my pdf file anyway. But he just didn't want to tell me how he did so. I just wonder if there is any way you are aware of out there the people can do so to the shared link file with download permission disabled? I googled around and saw some discussion on Reddit talking about this by inspecting into the source code of the dropbox page. Is this a way to work this around? If so, how to resolve this matter. This becomes an urgent issue for me now. Thanks! Yang2.1KViews0likes1CommentCan a public share link or direct download link be 'hacked' to see other files in folder?
Hi there, We have sensitive files that we'd like to share individually with clients via a direct download link (https://...dl.dropboxusercontent.com/...). Unfortunately, we're unable to share the files via any other method due to how our business systems currently work. Our clients are NOT members of our Dropbox folder - we don't want them to be able to see any file other than ones we explicitly link to them. First, we had to turn off the 'Link restrictions' setting which typically prevents non-members from accessing the folder (and the files within it) via a link. Does this make our Dropbox any more likely to be 'hacked' by anyone acting maliciously? Second, is the direct download link (https://...dl.dropboxusercontent.com/...) secure so that no client nor any member of public can manipulate the link to view other files within parent folder(s) or even view the directory of files?1.5KViews0likes1Comment
