Hello there, The below email has been sent to Microsoft 2 days ago and they advised to contact Dropbox. Hope Dropbox experts are able to understand the cause of the issue. "Having a couple of issues with an Excel file shared on Dropbox among colleagues of mine. Everyday, either a colleague or myself will be editing the worksheet and saving it in a Dropbox for further use from other colleagues or myself. Every time there is a modification in the file, a new copy of the file will be saved on the date of the day to have backups. Every week, the folder including different copies of the file at different dates will cleared up so old copies will be placed in an archive and the most recent file will be kept in the folder for further use. All the users are on Excel 2016 Mac version 16.10 We have been using the file for one year + and recently my colleague is having a pop-up window whenever she needs to open the file: "Name conflict Name cannot be the same as a built-in name. Old name: _FilterDatabase New name: 'field where I can write' " I have tried to fix the issue by following the below steps that I thought could fix the issue or that I found on the net: - Copied/pasted the entire content of each tab in the file in a complete new file - Removed all filters - Tried to create a new name and the problem is fixed until we re-open the file - Tried to press 'cancel' on the 'Name conflict' pop-up window. Another pop-up window will show "Alert We found a problem with some content in the 'filename.xlsx'. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes." I click 'Yes' and the Name conflict pop-up window shows up, I click 4 times on 'cancel' and finally the spreadsheet opens with "Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content" I then click Delete. The file is usable UNTIL someone else saves a new version on top of it... - Tried to send a copy of the file through email but the issue persists Very disappointing issue and clearly avoids us to work properly. Wish a Microsoft technician could help me with this issue which is extremely inconvenient. " Following to this message, I have created a copy of the file in .xls format and it is working without issue. However, I am willing to use .xlsx format as we used to. Thank you in advance, regards, LoïcSolved72KViews0likes5CommentsHow can I report a shared link with illegal nude photos?

Hi I have for ages had the practice of going outdoors and editing word documents stored in dropbox on my phone or tablet with Microsoft Word app This has always worked like a dream, any changes would be automatically saved with no error messages and synced to all devices. Now I am getting error messages about "changes made by other user, your file can't be saved" or "can't upload file" sometimes AFTER I've done a stack of work in that file, so all those edits are lost. Or the file will open "read only" ! It seems I have to save a new version with a new name every time I open a file on my phone before I can be sure it will do edits without some drama or other. Dropbox folder on my computer is working perfectly. This is driving me insane as I do this work every day, and had no issue til now. Any ideas?Solved43KViews1like64CommentsWhat happens when I delete shared folders and files?
I was provided access to files and folders. When I delete the files, does it delete them for everyone that has shared access to the folder? What about permanently deleted files? Can the other members still access those under their deleted folder?Solved29KViews0likes9CommentsCannot save changes to Microsoft Word Online documents in shared Dropbox folders.
Greetings. The issue. Any MS Word document that I create in a shared Dropbox folder or add to the folder cannot be edited in Word Online without getting the following error message: Couldn't save latest changes. To avoid losing the highlighted changes, copy and paste them into the document in a new tab. The message is in a yellow banner at the top of the document. Specs. I'm running Firefox Developer Edition 114.0b9 (64-bit) under Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) x86_64. I have a free "Basic" Dropbox account, and a free Microsoft account (no 365 license). Things I've tried. I've tried logging into my Microsoft account, reloading Word Online, and trying again. I even tried recreating the entire document when signed in to my Microsoft account. I've tried creating the document in another subfolder of the shared folder. I've tried different formats, including ODT, DOCX and DOC. I've tried adding MS Word files to my shared folder in different ways, that is: By using the Dropbox web interface and its "Create" dropdown; By copying and pasting a file into the shared folder, again using the Dropbox web interface; By adding the file to the synced folder on my Linux system. I've tried setting the share options in Word Online to "Anyone with [the] link can edit". After each of all these different attempts, I would reload the document and try to change the file again, with no success. I would also close the tab and reopen the document afresh from the Dropbox interface. Even after doing this, the same error appears a few seconds after making any change, whatever that be, to the file. Some examples of different changes I've tried making to the document include adding text, removing text, changing the spell check language for the document as a whole, changing the font of some or all of the text, adding comments, and so forth. Doing even a single one of these changes results in the error described earlier, meaning that the number of changes made to the files is unrelated to the problem, as opposed to what some have suggested online on other forums. A quick search on the internet shows that many people are complaining about the very same issue to Microsoft, although Microsoft staff argue that this is a Dropbox-related problem, and don't suggest any working fixes. I say this in all due respect to both Microsoft and Dropbox staff and community, and am not accusing anyone for the problems I am experiencing. It is noteworthy that this error does not occur when creating or adding an MS Word file to an unshared Dropbox folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless.Solved25KViews0likes3CommentsUnable to attach as a file
I have been using Dropbox for several years now and up until last week I had 2 options when trying to send my files via email: attach as a file or upload a link. I no longer have the “attach a file” option. The people I work with do not use Dropbox and have no interest in the added steps to access the files I send. Please help me restore my ability to attach the file to my emailsSolved21KViews1like41Comments"tmp.drivedownload" Error - unable to resolve with tech support escalation
This error has been happening for weeks, and tech support has unfortunately been totally unable to help me. Thought I'd pitch this here. I am on several shared folders with other groups. Whenever someone else on one of these shared folders attempts to save or change a file, I get a popup message that looks like this: Again, I'm not actually taking any action at all - this happens totally without any interaction on my part. It happens for any file, not just the one seen in the example. Clicking the checkbox stops it from happening again for that particular file, but only for one instance. Anytime a new file is touched, the popup appears again for that next file. The scary part is that what appears to happen is that the files seem to get dumped into trash or recycling on OTHER PEOPLE'S COMPUTERS - horrifying! I asked others to check, this and that's the only way we found out that files were getting nuked. I'm very worried that we will later discover that crucial files have gone missing, and only when it causes a crisis. Tech support has told me over and over again to simply uncheck the box, despite my explanation that would stop it for that file, but this happensagain for the next file - I want it to stop happening for new files. This has been extremely frustrating. It makes it clear that they are simply not reading my responses. I have Googled enough to discover that this has to do with some sort of conflict with Google Drive syncing, but can't get any info about how to stop files from being deleted, let alone stop the error from happening. Ideas? Thoughts? Things I can test? Please, any help will be gratefully accepted! In the meantime, I've stopped all file syncing in both GDrive and Dropbox, for fear of this accidentally leading to deletion of valuable project or client files.
