Hello, I have created a new folder "Camera upload Karla" where I want my wifes iPhone to automatically upload photos to. This seems not to be so easy, as Dropbox on a phone will only upload to "Camera Upload" folder. Is this correct? How can I make her iPhone upload automatically to the new folder? Thank you36KViews11likes62CommentsCan't un-exclude directories with `dropbox.py exclude remove <directory>` on Ubuntu 20.04.2
I have a Linux machine (running Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS, "Focal Fossa") upon which I am running a "headless" Dropbox daemon as per here: https://www.dropbox.com/install-linux The Dropbox daemon is up to date: ``` $ dropbox.py version Dropbox daemon version: 125.4.3474 Dropbox command-line interface version: 2020.03.04 ``` This machine is truly "headless", so I am doing everything on the command line. Installation of the daemon and initial sync seemed to work fine, though autostart isn't working for me. I've found that I can exclude directories with `dropbox.py exclude add <directory>` just fine. When I run that command for a directory in my Dropbox, the directory briefly appears in the list output from `dropbox.py exclude`. However, once the directory is actually deleted from the local Dropbox directory, it disappears from the list too. For example, I do have a bunch of directories excluded, and they are not present in the local Dropbox directory. However, the tool incorrectly reports no excluded directories: ``` $ dropbox.py exclude No directories are being ignored. ``` This is fine, if a bit weird, but the problem is that I can't add excluded directories back (un-exclude them?) with `dropbox.py exclude remove <directory>`. That command outputs nothing and has no effect. Why not? How can I get this to work? It seems totally broken right now.7.6KViews10likes43CommentsWhy did the location of my Dropbox folder change?
Today I noticed that right clicking on files in my Dropbox folder (the ones pinned to my Finder sidebar) did not bring up the Dropbox menu options. After further investigation I realized that Dropbox had moved my entire directory into /Users/library and displays this message, buried within preferences: This version of macOS requires Dropbox folders to be stored here: /Users/alex/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox I received no notice that this was happening. I have no idea when it happened and I have no way to know what version the files in the new directory are. What a mess! Any advice on how to ensure my files are up to date and if it's safe to delete the old dropbox directory? Thanks everyone I'm on v147.2.4724 of the Mac client on a M1 Macbook with Monterey 12.3.1Solved9.1KViews8likes23CommentsDropbox constantly creating desktop.ini files - how do disable this?
As per the title; the latest dropbox is now generating desktop.ini files pretty much as soon as they're deleted (they were recreated only on dropbox starts earlier, so a delete upon startup was all I needed). This is detrimental for me; how can I disable this behaviour? They are pretty meaningless files, too, this is all in it: ■[ . There's also no promise of any solution, ever. This is what you get you bloody miserable user for paying for this product. Best Option: use another product.Solved10KViews7likes35CommentsIntolerable slow speed moving files
https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/202007985-CPU-usage-making-version-3-intolerable?input_string=Intolerable Basically have the same issue. Very frustrated. I tried to move/delete a single picture from camera upload folder to another folder to organize my pictures, but every time I have to wait about 10 seconds or longer for ONE copy & paste action. I am grateful that I can auto upload all my pictures & videos from my iPhone to the cloud but Dropbox makes it impossible for me to organize them. Now I have tons of pictures & videos that i could impossibly move them out of the camera upload folder. Dropbox discontinued support to 10.5.8 (which was a HUGE inconvenience) where I had dropbox worked perfectly fine for me. Since I was unable to upgrade to newer version on my old iMac and I do find the needs anyway to upgrade my computing power, I decided to purchase a new macbookpro running 10.10.2 w/ i7. Sadly, Dropbox has failed me by using so much of CPU power which makes it impossible for me to move ONE single file from camera upload folder to another. I am not sure if any other user runs into this same problem but this will be my last year of $99 subscription as there are many other competitors out there. Are we in stone age? I mean WINDOWS 98 can perform a copy & paste function better than DROPBOX. Very Frustrated. I have tons of files & videos that will forever pile up in my camera upload folder.7.7KViews6likes8CommentsKeep the comments in previous file versions
When I upload a new version I want to be able to keep the comments which were already present in the previous version. Some of the comments have been resolved but most haven't How do I do that? I'm working on an animation film so duration won't vary much anymore. When working in editing I think drag and dropping comments would be a great addition. Hope to hear from you.2.2KViews5likes7CommentsEdit files in vault on Windows
I've looked into new Dropbox plus features this morning, tried out the new Vault feature. I've realized that, when you are on Windows, there is no way to edit the files you have in the Vault. You can do this on Android with the Dropbox app, because the app has a text editor, but on Windows the way to edit files is to opened the sync file on your machine. However, the Vault folder does not get synced. Text files can't be edited in the browser in Dropbox, so the only options for editing the files in the Vault right now seems to be to move them out of the Vault, edit them, move them back in the Vault. Maybe someone has looked into this more. Is there a way to edit those files without moving them? Is there any plan to implement something to permit this (the Vault is a new feature)? Or will there be an option in the future to sync the Vault folder to Windows (while keeping it secure)?6.8KViews5likes7CommentsThe ignore folder feature is not working.
I can confirm that I'm seeing the same behavior that cabreu described: ignored folders don't get synced BUT the dropbox appcontinues to monitor them anyway and performs some level of processing whenever files are added/removed/edited from inside ignored folders 😩 Unfortunately this all but defeats the purpose of an "ignore" feature for many of us. We need dropbox to truly ignore(i.e. do not react to changes within) certain folders to preserve system resources.8.6KViews5likes28Comments
