I've been having issues with Dropbox as of about a month ago - Windows 10, older Ryzen processor, desktop app. At first, the sync attempts would hang up - it would constantly show it as syncing, and nothing I did would get it to stop. This included resets. Now today, it kept asking for updates - asking to run as administrator to do so, but never finishing the process after repeated acknowledgements. I went through an uninstall - it hung up on uninstall. I went to the forums to learn how to do a deeper uninstall and did that. Reinstalled the app on my PC. Now it won't start when Windows starts up, and when trying to start it manually, it hangs up. I've uninstalled it completely from my PC and won't be installing it again as I'm not sure what can be done that I haven't already done. I want to let folks know that there is something not right with it and my PC anymore, and I'm tired of fighting it. I'll deal with it through the web, as much as I'd rather not deal with it that way either. The desktop app is really convenient - or at least it was.19Views0likes2Comments'No Internet Connection. Your computer is offline' on the desktop app in Windows 10
Hello I see this issue is recurring here. Now I am facing this annoying situation. Tried everything people usually tell me to do: 1-Turned off Antivirus; 2-Reset DNS and Network Interfaces; 3- Reinstalled Dropbox; 4- Changed network adapter settings.; 5- Updated Windows 10; 6- I am about to move to another file syncing service if I don't get this fixed. I need help from somebody at Dropbox, so I can use it again, many of my personal files are there, I've been a loyal customer for almost 8 years!4Views0likes1CommentApp always updating thousands of files
Since a few weeks, my Dropbox app is always updating thousands of files, whenever my computer is started, taken out of sleep or hibernation. I think it started after I used Dropbox to briefly store a lot of small files on a secondary laptop. Searching on the internet, I have found more people with similar problems and I have tried some of the suggested solutions, but so far to no avail. This is on Windows 11, Dropbox plus subscription with selective sync enabled (my whole dropbox doesn't fit on the laptop). What I have done: remove and reinstall Dropbox; remove, delete dropbox cache folder, reboot laptop, reinstall Dropbox. At first the reinstall seemed to work but it didn't solve it permanently. Any other suggestions?Solved1.4KViews0likes27CommentsSuspicious "DropboxUpdater" file appears to be passing itself as legitimate Dropbox file
Hi, I'm informing you about this both to let you know that Dropbox may be being used as a means to get through firewalls, and to get this on the record for other people having the same issue. I will also be informing BitDefender. I have Dropbox installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox" and within the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Update" folder, the executable is named "DropboxUpdate.exe" Above details the legitimate Dropbox install. However, there has recently been a second Dropbox presence on my PC, presumably using Dropbox credentials to walk through my firewall. I use BitDefender. The second presence is located at "C:\Program Files\Dropbox\DropboxUpdater\123.0.6299.61" and is named "updater.exe" I initially didn't see it as suspicious due to the "Dropbox"-named folder in it's path. However, whenever it connected to the internet, it downloaded a file, then created a folder named "C:\Program Files\chrome_unpacker_beginunzipping33496_1121615137\" The number string was different for each file, but followed the same pattern of 5 and 10 numbers. This folder contained a filed named "dropboxclientinstaller.exe" which would then connect to the internet, however, it didn't show up in the "Application Access" tab of the Bitdefender Firewall, but did create a new "Rule" in that tab, with access allowed. It then downloaded a separate .RAR file to the following folder and deleted itself, leaving the "chrome_unpacker*" folder in place. "C:\Program Files\Dropbox\DropboxUpdater\123.0.6299.61" Here, I don't know what the files were called, but there were a lot of them there. As soon as I found them, I deleted the lot, as well as all other related folders and files. I required Admin access to do so, and only after I had deleted everything else could I deleted the "updater.exe" file.33Views0likes2CommentsInstalling Dropbox desktop app for Windows to Program Files instead of x86 Program Files
Is there any way to modify Dropbox installation procedure so that it installs to Program Files folder instead of Program Files (x86)...? e.g. with some parameter after dropbox-install.exe If not when is it in schedule to change the folder? Dropbox is one of only programs left that I have that installs to Program Files x86. The program seems to be already 64-bit so it could very well be located in Program Files with majority of other apps.65Views0likes5CommentsDropbox Business - No Option to Share Link from Computer
I have now lost the option to right click on a file in Windows Explorer then select Dropbox> Copy Dropbox link. The only option now showing under the Dropbox submenu is "Send a copy (business)". I use the copy Dropbox link option multiple times a day and wondering if there is a way to get that option back. I saw a previous from October where the Accepted Solution was to uninstall and reinstall Dropbox. I have tried that twice and it did not fix the issue. Still only have "Send a copy (business)" as the only option and I can't "Copy Dropbox link" The version installed is 192.4.4605 - which is the same version on my other computer and I don't have this issue on that computer.1.2KViews1like9CommentsOnline-only not working in Surface Pro 11 (Snapdragon version)
Recently I went back to Dropbox having read that it now works with Snapdragon Windows versions, but currently I have a significant issue. I cannot have any online-only file in my SP11, thus I cannot have all Dropbox files in my device. I have this in the main DP screen: Then I go to "Manage hard disk space", select folders and make online-only. In less than a second I get the message they are online-only, but they aren't. Any idea how to solve this? Thanks in advance.76Views0likes3CommentsDropbox desktop app can't connect after a Windows 11 update

I have an upgraded (from Win8 to Win10 Pro) PC and this evening Dropbox won't start and pops up the 'Dropbox is removing support for Windows 7,8 and 8.1. Exit Dropbox' popup box. I have downloaded the offline installer (Dropbox 210.5.4894 Offline Installer.x64.exe). I am loathe to do this as I don't know exactly what it will do. I somehow have Dropbox in two locations C\Users\Doug\Dropbox (190GB - 302456 files - 22,746 folders) AND D\Dropbox (2.73GB - 290 files - 18 folders) When I went to the dropbox icon in the task bar\clicked my avatar\Preferences\Sync Tab\Move but when I did it showed the location as the D\Dropbox location. What I want to do is move the C\Users\Doug\Dropbox to the D Drive but do not know to do so as it is not an option under the Sync tab - Move. Would appreciate any help getting Dropbox moved from my C drive to the D drive. I am using Windows 10. Thanks!40Views0likes4Comments
