dropbox business
40 TopicsTeam members seem to be using 0B, even though they access content larger than that.
Hi i have a subscription for my users on dropbox. They are able to upload and download files how ever their usage still reads 0 bytes. Why would that be so? and at what point do we see a change in usage size?1.9KViews0likes14CommentsHow does shared business account storage work?
This is probably a simple question, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer. We just created a business account for our small team. We often work with freelancers who need access to edit and upload files in certain project folders. If we share one of these folders with edit access to someone outside our team and they add content to the folder in our team folder, does this utilize their personal dropbox space or ours? Thanks!Solved579Views0likes5CommentsDisaster: Dropbox removing external disk support for Mac users :(
In case anyone's unaware... if you're a Mac user storing your Dropbox on an external drive, you'll shortly lose that ability. https://talk.tidbits.com/t/dropbox-drops-support-for-storing-files-on-an-external-drive-and-onedrive-retains-it/20797/16 https://help.dropbox.com/installs/macos-support-for-expected-changes Just confirmed this with DB support (see below). Gutted - been with Dropbox for years and our entire video team flow is based around it 😕 >Hi there, I read today that you are scrapping the ability to store the Dropbox folder on external disks, on OSX. I'd like to ask more about this please. > Hello Jon, and thank you for contacting Dropbox Support. My name is Joseph, and I will be more than happy to look into your request, right away. That is correct Jon, as part of the Dropbox for macOS update, the Dropbox folder must be located in ~/Library/CloudStorage. >This is a showstopper for us, and will mean we have to move to another service. We have a large distributed team using DB for video work, no way it'll fit within internal drives. Is there a workaround? >I totally understand and I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, there is no workaround on this as changing the location of your Dropbox folder is no longer supported by macOS. >This change doesn't seem to have hit us yet - we're running a variety of machines inc Ventura What will trigger its enforcement? Can we stay on an earlier OS or Dropbox version? >The updates happening automatically every time the Dropbox app is restarting, for example if your device never restarts it should maintain the older version but we can't guarantee full functionality on older versions of the application. >So what will happen - if we have a Dropbox folder on an 8TB drive and a tiny internal drive - will it try to clone stuff across and eat up the space? What's the mechanism? >That's right, it will try to move the content on your internal drive until it has no space and gives you an error. >Is Smartsync still supported?I.e. will it move stuff to being online only if it won't fit? >It is, however it is now known as online-only.Solved101KViews25likes691CommentsOur Dropbox team has gone over-quota and I can't permanently delete my files.
My Client (Call it Client Gamma) has a Dropbox Standard Account of 5 TB. Only we 2 are the members of this account. Client Gamma is the admin. When I log In to Dropbox I get 2 Folders. My Personal Folder (Call it FOLDER ALPHA) and the Folder that my client uploads files to (Call it FOLDER Gamma). Now I have other clients(Call it Client Beta) as well. And Clients Beta have invited me to their Dropbox account. These client's folder (Folder Beta) appear inside my FOLDER ALPHA. So these folders should be independent from my main client's folder (independent from Client Gamma). > PROBLEM 1: Now Client Gamma's Account Storage is Full. I proceed to upload files to my other client's folder (Folder Beta). Their accounts are not full. But I get Dropbox is full error. > Problem 2: Hoping to create space, I decide to go to the deleted files section where my old files are rotting because I can't permanently delete them. The files I had in the FOLDER ALPHA are mine. The admin (Folder Gamma) doesn't even have access to Folder Alpha(My folder). But I can't permanently delete my own files unless I have permission from Client Gamma? I am really confused. Someone explain to me what is happening and how to solve this?2.1KViews0likes5CommentsMember of Dropbox team account keeps getting a message that she's out of space
Hi, we have a shared Dropbox with 60TB. We have not set a limit for the members. One of the members computer is on it's last legs and she is trying to upload her files to Dropbox. She keeps getting a message saying she has insufficient space to do this. Can anyone help? Does she need to upload in smaller bunches?417Views0likes2CommentsI'd like to sync certain folders in my Dropbox to a different drive
I know this is a frequent request, and I'm sure it will be until it's been provided! My team relies on DB a lot and we store a great deal of large files on it. At the moment I need to sync about 320GB of data, in 2GB chunks, which is a normal amount for my work. I don't have that much free storage on my system drive, and can't free it up atm, so I'm having to sync in chunks of files, then move those to my working drive and de-sync them from my system drive, rinse and repeat. I've tried downloading them in chunks from the web but they fail when my PC locks overnight. One solution is to set up DB in a VM and use that to sync certain folders to an external drive...but is that really the best way, when DB could just add optional paths for certain folders? I'm constantly surprised by how basic and unfeatured the client side is!1.4KViews0likes6CommentsDropbox in a Citrix environment
We are busy implementing Dropbox where some 100 user will use it in a Citrix environment. I am aware, that this is not supported by Dropbox 🙂 Our setup is the following and it should work according to your information, and I am wondering, it this is a bug or a feature 😉 We have set globally to save the files online only. After the first setup all looks good. I see the files, but just the shadows. My whole folder is 900bytes. I can work and everything looks promising. The process with the files is, that when I logoff, the files are copied with the whole AppData to my profile. The next time I log on all files are loaded, including my Dropbox files. The issue is that the second time I logon the client syncs all files as real files. This is totally odd, since all Dropbox files are only on the server as long, I work on it, then they are copied to the user home folder. I would not be worried if it only would be the user data, but since everyone has access to team folders, this can pretty fast add up. When I now manage hard drive space and remove everything, it looks good, but after a restart, everything is back again. Maybe there is a file that we are missing to copy in the AppData.880Views0likes3CommentsNo additional space on Business Advanced
Dear community, I'm here to advice that the support have been denying us additional space for two weeks, first telling us that there was a momentary problem, then that we had made a request before the 7 days, then again (after waiting 7 days) that there is a problem which however is not written by Nowhere. We're really worried about that because they don't give us any timelines and the fact that the problem doesn't exist on the dropbox status page and that nobody else talks about it seems a bit suspicious. I don't like writing these posts but we are really worried don't you think? Are any of you having similar problems? do they only have it with us?116KViews14likes615CommentsMy Dropbox Business account shows a quota discrepancy and I'm not getting help.
In May 2022, I moved my 60TB of important data to Dropbox, believing their promise of unlimited storage. This decision came after rumors that Google might end their unlimited storage option. Transitioning to Dropbox was challenging; I even had to change how files were named because of Dropbox's limitations. After some effort, I finally got all my data uploaded. However, my relief was short-lived. By November 2023, Dropbox announced the end of their unlimited storage plans. Despite this change, I decided to stay because the service still seemed valuable. But soon, I faced a serious issue. My account showed conflicting information: one part said I was using 93TB of my 109TB limit, which was fine, but another claimed I was using 130TB, which made no sense and blocked me from uploading more files. This discrepancy stemmed from an old upload that I had cancelled and deleted. When I contacted Dropbox support for help, they were initially responsive. They discovered the cause of the error but then became less helpful. Despite my repeated attempts to resolve the problem, all I received were automated responses and one particularly confusing email that claimed the issue was resolved when it clearly wasn't. It's been two months since I first reached out for help, and I'm still stuck. I'm paying for a service I can't fully use because of a mistake on their end that they haven't fixed. My experience has shown me that Dropbox might not be a reliable place to store my data anymore. They seem unable to manage serious issues effectively. This story is a warning to others who rely on cloud storage: the service is only as good as the support behind it. We need to be able to trust these services not just to store our data but also to help us when things go wrong. Dropbox haven't fixed the issue yet. I hope this story pushes them to resolve the problem and take better care of their customers.958Views0likes1CommentWill our team keep its existing quota upon renewal, after Dropbox dropped unlimited for Advanced?
Hello, I currently integrate a business team of 4. We used to have, as many did also, the unlimited option which is now gone. I have been on Dropbox for so long so my current amount of files (myself only) is over 100TB. I think at least one people from the team will drop out as this unlimited to limited change was a deal breaker (I am even myself considering other options to be completely honest). I am however wondering and wanting to know if upon renewal and if remaining as a business account and since we are only allowed 3TB-5TB (depending in business plus or not) what will happen to the 95TB remaining already in my account? Will it be deleted? And what do they sort as deletable or not? Can anyone give me any input on this? Or what you think I should do in this case scenario? Thank you.501Views0likes1Comment
