sync
371 TopicsMy files sync as online-only, but I need to make them available offline. How do I do this?
I keep virtually all my files on drop box so I have them continuously backed up. I have about 700gb of data used for this. I just bought a new computer with windows 11 and after getting drop box up and running it appeared that all my stuff was synced up. I thought it was going to take several house to copy over that much data but it only took about 20 minutes. Now I am discovering that many of my file are actually "off line" and when I open them I have a lag waiting for the file to come over the internet. I often have a need to use my computer when there is no internet connection and I must have all my file available on my C drive. How can I get all my files onto my c drive? Is this something that is actually happening in the background and I am just not seeing it? (I only got it working yesterday)12Views0likes2CommentsCan't sync my folders from the Dropbox app to my desktop.
Hi, I was logged out of my company's shared Dropbox account and when I logged back in I could no longer download and sync my files to my computer, I've tried downloading them and just keeps saying too many files were attempted to zip...33Views0likes1CommentMessage from the Dropbox app that "1 File is Unable to Sync".
Hi, I am a longterm user of Dropbox on Windows desktop. I have one dropbox folder/file that is not syncing. All the rest of my files are syncing fine. The message I get from the Dropbox app is "1 File is Unable to Sync" I tried exiting the app and then rebooting the app. And, that didn't solve the issue. I also renamed the problematic file in the cloud and then didn't solve the issue. I tried to rename the problematic file on my desktop but it wont allow me. It gives me the error message "This action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open to another program." I have checked all my programs and I don't see any program running any file in that folder. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Thanks.Solved31Views0likes3CommentsRequest: All files available offline by default
Moving the Mac to the new File Provider is great - very happy this is finally happening and support on the new M1 is much better. Kudos! Feature request: Really miss the feature to have Dropbox default to making all files downloaded and available for offline open/save. I will always, 100% of the time, want Dropbox to keep all my selected-to-sync files to also be downloaded and available for offline use. I know you can right-click to request offline availability, but this creates a bit of an unclear situation as you can't see by looking at a file in Finder whether it is supposed to be offline available or not. I want this to just be the way Dropbox works. Since there is the option to do this on a per file / folder basis using right-click, seems likely possible for Dropbox to make this effectively on-by-default for every file, with the user doing the gesture.Solved27KViews19likes90CommentsIs there a way to have my Dropbox sync between a certain time frame?
I'm looking for a solutions for one of my coworkers. His issue is that when he compiles code dfuring the hours of 8am-5pm he doesn't want the drop box to try and sync open files that he's working on. Is there a soulution or method to have the sync to happen at 5pm and then shut down the app at 7am the following morning?17Views0likes1CommentDropbox keeps downloading files although new files are set to sync as online-only
I run my computers via both fibre-based internet as well as via limited cellular network. The problem always has been -- even though 'on-line only' is selected -- dropbox always downloads. Primarily if a file has been uploaded on another computer and downloads consistently on my other computer -- even though 'on-line only' is selected. My files are typically 300Mb - 3gb so it is most troublesome. I use dropbox both as a 3tb backup of my data as well as sharing with a couple of people certain folders. Regardless, if a new file has been uploaded it still downloads onto another computer using my data up. So have had to uninstall Dropbox. Also, I run Carbon copy ... of which only changes/adds files that are new. But again ... Dropbox insists on uploading all files. Very painful. Is there something I am missing. I have a new install on a Mac (Sequoia 15.1). I opted to keep all my folders offline on the install. However in the Mac finder no folders are visible, only individual folders. On the webapp they are all there. I want selective sync and decide after the install what I want kept locally.19Views0likes1CommentFile in Dropbox on my HP, but not in Dropbox on my iPhone 12
I have a cookbook in Dropbox so I can share it with my grandchildren. I created a new recipe today Potato Soup in Word and saved it to Dropbox. It shows up on my HP laptop where I created and saved it, but I went to Dropbox on my iPhone so I could create a link and text it to them, but it doesn't show up on my iPhone. The rest of the cookbook is on my iPhone.53Views0likes6Comments"Smart" sync keeps downloading Online Only Files
I am growing increasingly frustrated with this so called "smart sync" feature Dropbox has recently introduced (or rather forced upon me). I have a number of files I've brought over to Dropbox using the finder on my Mac, that I have then marked as online only, in hopes that it would upload the files and then remove them from my local storage, which is limited. However Dropbox keeps randomly re-downloading the files to my system even after telling it that I want the files to be online only. This feature is supposed to "save hard disk space", which it does seem to do temporarily before it just starts downoading things again. It seems as though the only safe way to keep files from my drive is the old fashioned selective sync from preferences, but this is a backward way of working, especially when I want to have the folder show up on my local drive so I can bring files into it, but I may want those files to only live online. Has anyone found a solution to this abnormal behaviour (that, once again I might add, was forced on us as justification to increase the price of the paid service)?18KViews14likes77CommentsAlias Folders
I had to re-sync Dropbox recently and when I sync the app on my iMac Dropbox creates locked alias folders for Desktop, Downloads and Documents. Do I have to wait for the files to sync and the localize the files fromDesktop, Downloads and Documents? I want these folders to be on my local computer not aliases that link to Dropbox2.3KViews0likes19Comments
