Files are deleting themselves?? Why??
I keep seeing advisements pop up of files being deleted, but I am not deleting them.
- Recover one of the deleted files and then look at the previous version history for it. It will show you which account/device was used to delete it. That's where you need to look.

I had an email from Dropbox on 31/10 saying that many files had been deleted. When I checked everything had been deleted! Restoring them will take hours as there seem to be multiple copies too. What a mess.
Rich R. I checked my Events page which says that I deleted on Saturday when I was visiting friends and wasn't even at a computer. Other deletions happened since then which says that my partner deleted them... again I know she didn't. You say that Dropbox cant delete them... so how is it happening?
I also have a Samsung Galaxy 4 and I've disabled Dropbox on this following comments above.
Can Dropbox at least restore them to what they were before the deletion event?

so how is it happening?
Look at the Previous Versions history for one of the files. It will show you which device the deletion occurred on (when it says You deleted it in Events, it doesn't mean you personally. It only means that it happened on one of your devices. You need to find out which.). Once you know which device it happened on, you need to figure out what caused the deletion.
Dropbox cannot delete files without being told to. It's that simple.
Can Dropbox at least restore them to what they were before the deletion event?
You can undo full events. See here:

Rich - thanks. There is a lot of useful information on Dropbox that I wasn't aware of. Just a matter of finding the right bit.

As you can see below, I select restore and within 3 seconds after resorting it, DropBox says I deleted it. I'm not.
Can someone now please admit there is a problem and stop saying DropBox can't delete it? There is obviously a runaway synchronization problem or some such issue that deletes the file from the very same machine it is added on.
HELP!

No, because Dropbox is not deleting the file. Something on that computer (FSTRASZ-WK) is deleting it. Dropbox simply can't do it. All it can do is get a notification from the operating system that a file has been deleted and then sync that change up to the web.
You need to figure out what process on FSTRASZ-WK is deleting the file.

Frank
I have fixed it I opened a onedrive account then transfered what files I had left and have not had a problem since. If dropbox want to sit there in denial you simply cannot do anymore to help them.

It has happened to me again. Poof and a folder is gone. Somehow dropbox doesn't like something on one of my computers and deletes a whole folder. It is getting annoying. And I agree that I won't be able to figure it out and it is a dropbox bug. Obviously dropbox does not interact well with another program. If dropbox could tell us what the bug is, we could fix it. Until then I agree that if we want to save our files we need to move to another syncing program which is annoying. A little service could go a long way on this issue.

This was happening to me and I just realised the issue (for me).
I was sick of some (Joe's Conflicted copy)._xxx Files generating themselves so I installed Blue Harvest and cleaned my Dropbox. Along with some .meta files. But I didn't realise that Blue Harvest was automatically deleting the files from there on. I just switched automatic checking off and it fixed my problem. (Might be different from yours)

We have lost 19,000 files since yesterday afternoon and they are most definitely NOT recoverable! This issue will SHUT DOWN BUSINESS and the fact that I cannot get anyone on the phone is absolutely absurd!!!!!!!
