Solved

I cannot delete a Paper document in my account after my email was hacked

Following an e-mail hacking, I have two files in my Dropbox that I can not delete. These are entitled 'remittance advice.paper'?

Any clue? Thank you

Okay after 2 days I finally got a response back from the Dropbox team. This is how you remove the file. Login to Dropbox via your browser. Click on shared files, you should see the file that you wish to delete, click on the three dots then click remove file.

Hey OlivierHanotte, thanks for reaching out to us.

Can you please let us know why you're not able to delete this file?

Are you getting some kind of error? Any additional info would be helpful.

    Thanks.

When I select the file there is no option 'delete' available (do not have this issue with other files).

    Thank you

Is it a file that is actually saved in your account or does it only appear in your "recents" section?

I have the exact same problem. I reached out to Dropbox staff. They were no help whatsoever.  I asked for a technician to call me and was told my subscription doesn't include person to person calls. So I guess I have to upgrade to resolve?  Meanwhile leaving me vulnerable to possible virus?

I have the same problem. I cannot delete the file which appears only in my recent ones and not in my files list.

      I am on MacOS...

      Any idea ?

This is happening to me also. In my case they are using a variation on my email address, rather than my actual account, to host the fradulent .paper document. They are using my list of email contacts to further the spread. I do not have an enterprise dropbox account, so I cannot call customer service. Please direct message me about this so the document can be taken down!!

Hannahcan you please help us here?  I have sent multiple emails to the abuse dropbox email and am not getting any responses.  This seems to be a pervasive phishing problem for dropbox and you need to get on top of this quickly!

Hey Floyd123, SWhit and FREDCOLSON, thanks for letting us know about this.

To clarify, regarding the abuse@dropbox.com address, this is an address to which you can forward suspicious emails or links sent to you to report them, but the team won't reply to those emails; they will just investigate and do what needs to be done.

Regarding the files you see but can't delete, please check if these files are saved to your account.

If they're not saved and just appear in your "recents", they can't be deleted; they just appear on that list, because you recently viewed them, while signed in to your account.

They should be removed from that list automatically after a while, as long as you do not open the files again.

It certainly appears to be saved to my account I get the whole idea of reporting it however there has to be a solution to delete this from my Dropbox account. Please advise ASAP as your help center was unable to help at all.

Okay after 2 days I finally got a response back from the Dropbox team. This is how you remove the file. Login to Dropbox via your browser. Click on shared files, you should see the file that you wish to delete, click on the three dots then click remove file.
