Dropbox is syncing my Document directory, why?

Hi,

DropBox keep telling me that I ran out of my 2gb storage.

The directory /Document/foo/ is the only one that I set DropBox on my Mac to sync, and that is about 600mb.

I see in my web view, the entire /Document/ directory is being synced,

Q 1. why the entire /Document/ is beinf synced instead of what I set?

So, I go to my web view, and delete a few files in /Document/ directory to make space, they get deleted everywhere as well.

Q 2. Why the files in /Document/ get delete even that /Document/foo/ directory supposed to sync?

Is there aby bug with DropBox on Mac? V154.4.5363

Thanks,

  • Hey VahidM, thanks for the info!

Based on the info, it look that Backup has been enabled. Also, it's important to note, that since the "foo" folder directory is in your Documents , also the parent directory would sync too.

If you check your selective sync settings, you can't simlpy uncheck just the Documents folder, without "foo" also getting unchecked.

Hi VahidM, welcome to our Community!

It sounds like you've enabled our Backup feature, is that correct?

Can you try accessing your app's preferences, then visit your Backup tab, and let me know what you see when you click "Manage backups"? Screenshots are always welcome.

As for the files getting deleted, that would make sense since the app is in sync with the website, so any changes made to one of them should reflect on the other.

    Keep me posted!

      Thanks for your reply Megan.

I have not enabled the backup feature, but I see my /Document/ directory is being backed up in the web UI. Maybe is on by default?

On my Mac, I do not see it enabled as you see in the screenshot below:

The app on my Mac does not show what directory I set to sync, but I know that /Document/foo/ is the only one I set to sync, why the files in the parent directory of foo/ (/Document/) is being also synced?

Does the above setting means also sync /Document/ directory even I want a directory inside that to be synced only?

      Thanks.
