Do I need to install the Dropbox desktop application? Won't it take up space on my machine?

Is it necessary to install dropbox on my desktop ? If yes, isnt it going to still use my computer storage capacity ? Many thanks !

It isn't necessary to install the Dropbox desktop application in order to use your account on the Dropbox website. 

 

Without the desktop app, however, it wouldn't be possible to sync files from your machine to the site and other devices. 

 

You could install the app and also make files and folders online-only, so that they don't take up space on your machine.
