Hi! I'm having troubles with the Dropbox desktop app. It is syncing correctly, and I can access it just fine through my Windows Explorer, but after selecting a file it crashes my Explorer. I have t...

Maybe you have to defragment your hard disk! I have the same problem before and i solve it by defragment and do a check on the hard disk.

I'm sorry to hear about this agomulka. Let's have a look into this now!
Can you first send me a screenshot of the desktop app's exact status as shown within your computer's system tray to get a better idea of what could be causing this?
Thanks!

Same issue here and also a paid account. Ever since the new version with the SmartSync came out I have had issues with DropBox. I even tried reinstalling with a fresh download from the site. Not antivirus related - tried that as well. Installed with admin. Watched it start the sync process when installed.
It acts like even with files set to Local it is still downloading the files/folders from the cloud when trying to access them - I repeat my files are local AND synced. I have watched my explorer bar "load" after clicking a folder or file for access within Explorer. This is not limited to a specific file type either. All files types (word, excel, photshop, power point, pdf, etc.) act like they are pulling from the cloud to be opened instead of using the local copies.
OS: Windows 10 64bit
DropBox: v86.4.146
- Save hard drive space automatically = off
- Selective sync = All folders selected
- DropBox is installed and syncing to an external drive (as it always has been and has never had an issue until this version)At this point, if this is not resolved soon I want to revert back to a previous version as these issues are a serious time loss in my day since I live and work out of my DropBox account.
Thank you!

Thanks for the elaborate report Lori (TazzyT) - I appreciate it!
I'd really love to look into this behavior; it sounds strange indeed. Would you like me to reach out via your Dropbox email address to work on this with all of my tools available?
Also, since you mentioned that your Dropbox folder is located on an external HDD, could you try moving it to the affected computer's primary drive (for testing purposes) and let me know if you notice the freezing of your Windows Explorer?
If you could also include two or three screenshots in your next response to see what you described (the different states of the files in question and their syncing icons, the status of the desktop app etc.), that'd be very useful!

Hi Walter,
Yes, please feel free to reach out to my email address. At that point I will send over screen shots of my main folder and files. Sorry this is a security thing with me as I work from home on my system.
Unfortunately, I have a limited size SSD for my primary drive which is why I install and run on a separate drive. However, this is how I have always run DropBox since day 1. It is not an “external drive” or usb drive, as this is a desktop with multiple drives installed. It is just not my Primary or C: drive.
All icons are green circles with white check marks. There are no blue syncing icons on my files.
Thank you!
Lori
